C l u s t e r News Dear Parishioners, During this year’s Easter Season the second reading from Mass – aside from Easter Sunday itself, Ascension, and Pentecost – is from the First Letter of Saint John. This letter has many of the same themes as the Gospel of Saint John, including love. In this weekend’s second reading we hear of God’s love for us. “See what love the Father has bestowed on us that we may be called the children of God.” Because of our sin, because of the evil we’ve done or the good we’ve failed to do we may feel we are not children of God. I think the author of 1 John recognizes this because immediately after we hear “See what love the Father has bestowed on us that we may be called the children of God” as if to calm our self doubts the author affirms “Yet so we are.” Even if and when we sin, we are still God’s beloved children. Like all children, and like all people regardless of our age, we are works in progress. 1 John goes on to say “What we shall be has not yet been revealed. We do know that when it is revealed we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.” God’s grace continues to be at work in us. If we cooperate with God’s grace, if we remain faithful to our Father by believing in His Son, following His command-ments, and seeking His mercy then one day God will complete His work in us. On that joyful day we shall see God, and we will be complete! This weekend and next weekend some of our young parishioners will make great progress towards love of God by receiving their first Holy Communion. Please pray our children have a love for Jesus in the Eucharist. And give thanks for parents and catechists who reveal this love to our children. As I write this I am still determining when I will depart our parishes. In the words of 1 John, it “has not yet been revealed!” Regardless I am thankful to God for allowing me to ‘live the dream’ of the ordained priesthood of Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd, with you, my fellow children of God. -Father Mark Murphy

Marriage and Family Reflection

“I am the good shepherd...I will lay down my life for my sheep.” (John 10:14-15) What does the image of the Good Shepherd reveal about your role of leadership and authority as a spouse or a parent? With so many responsibilities, - caring for your family, work, tending to the home, etc. - there are many things to worry and stress about. Entrust them to God and find peace; He will guide you.
