My Dear Parishioners,
As you can see by the special front page of today’s
bulletin, St. Katharine Drexel School, our parish
school which we share with Assumption BVM Parish,
has been awarded National Blue Ribbon Status. This
is the highest U.S. Government recognition for a pub-
lic or private school that can be achieved in the United
States, and the award is given by the U.S. Department
of Education in Washington, DC. Elizabeth DeVos, U.S. Secretary for
Education, announced the 349 nationwide 2018 winners on Monday, Oc-
tober 1.
In her announcement, the Secretary stated that St. Katharine Drexel
School is one of the exemplary high performing schools in the country,
which means that the achievement of the school students in the most re-
cent year tested, places the school in the top 15 percent in the nation in
Reading, English, Language Arts, and Mathematics, as measured by a
nationally normed test.
While our Catholic School exists primarily to proclaim the Gospel of
Jesus Christ, and while our Catholic identity is paramount in all we say
and do, it is also reassuring to know from a competent, objective, and na-
tionally recognized evaluator that our students are getting the best educa-
tion in all the other areas of living so necessary for a successful and pro-
ductive life. St. Katharine Drexel School is one of only 49 private schools
to attain this award during the current year, throughout our nation.
As pastor, I am extremely proud of our school, its principal, faculty,
students, and the families who sacrifice so much to send their children to
SKD. When this regional school was established, the late Fr. Bill McGe-
own of Assumption BVM, Mrs. Margi Slomiany (founding Principal), and
I set “Blue Ribbon” as one of our greatest goals. I thank our present Prin-
cipal Ms. Laura Clark for doing so much through the years that she has
been principal, to lead us to the attainment of this special goal.
While we rejoice and celebrate this achievement, I am at the same time
keenly aware that there are families in our parish and area who would like
to send their children to SKD, but cannot because of financial constraints.
Thankfully, through the generosity of contributors to the Anne Flanagan
Foundation, many families receive financial aid scholarships. But in or-
der to expand that aid, I ask you to consider a contribution, so that many
more potential families will not hesitate to seek the reassurance of a quali-
ty, affordable Catholic education at SKD.
The Anne Flanagan Foundation is maintained as a separate 501-C3 ac-
count, entirely for the purposes of providing financial aid for the families
of St. Katharine Drexel School. No funds go to the Archdiocese.
In conclusion, please mark your calendar for Sunday November 11,
when we will have a special Mass of Thanksgiving, a celebratory Open
House, and unveiling of the new signage, proclaiming SKD as a National
Blue Ribbon School!
God Bless You,

Scripture Readings for Next Sunday Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time
October 14, 2018
Wisdom 7: 7-11
Psalm 90: 12-17
Hebrews 4: 12-13
Mark 10: 17-30 or 17-27 The Jesus we have encountered throughout the year in
Mark’s Gospel is very real, down-to-earth. Today his
conversation with the young man who goes away sad at
the prospect of giving away his many possessions leads
him to a reflection on how difficult it is to enter God’s
kingdom when one’s heart is taken up with other kinds of
possessions. As we listen today to God’s word, what in
our lives keeps us from entering God’s kingdom? How
might God help us?
Stewardship Appeal The weekend of October 27-28 will be Stewardship
Sunday. If you have not already sent in your Steward-
ship donation and questionnaire, you can place it in
the collection basket on that weekend. You can also
mail or bring it to the Parish Office.

St. Bede Parish Celebrated FORTY HOURS DEVOTION Photos by Gary Gehringer
Closing ceremonies Tuesday, October 2, 2018
All of our groups and organizations proudly processed into church to begin the closing ceremonies, including our Legion of Mary, Cub and Boy Scout troops, and representatives of our recent Confirmation and First Holy Communion classes.
The church was filled to capacity, including many priests who have served at St. Bede as parochial vicars, transitional deacons or seminarians. Fr. Anthony Hangholt served as
the homilist for all three evening’s ceremonies.
Knights of Columbus members served as canopy bearers for Monsignor Marine, as he carried the Blessed Sacrament.
The outdoor candlelight service was well attended by parishioners and visiting Clergy.
The outdoor procession at the end of Forty Hours is a time of worship, but also a community event for all of our parishioners.

Principal’s CornerPrincipal’s Corner
It is with great pride
and joy that I inform you
that Saint Katharine
Drexel Catholic School
has been officially
named a 2018 National
Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. SKD is one of 49 private schools from
across the country receiving this prestig-
ious honor. We are considered an Exem-
plary High Performing School and are
among our state’s highest performing
schools as measured by nationally
normed tests. What is most impressive
is that we are receiving this distinction
in our first year of eligibility. This award is a testament to the dedi-
cation and hard work of our faculty and
our students. At SKD, we are constantly
striving to ensure that our academic pro-
grams meet the needs of all of our stu-
dents, while always encouraging them to
be the best student that they can be.
On November 7-8, the Secretary and
the Department of Education will
celebrate with 300 public and 49 private
school honorees at an awards ceremony
in Washington, D.C.
Please mark your calendars and join us
on Sunday, November 11th. We will
have a Mass of Thanksgiving at Saint
Bede’s 12:30pm Mass. At the conclusion
of Mass, all will be invited to a reception
in the gymnasium and an open house.
Come and listen to our band play and join
our school choir in singing our school
song. More details will be provided as
the date gets closer.
Thank you for your continued support
and prayers for your school. We are a
community. We are a family. We are a
National Blue Ribbon School of Excel-
lence! We are Proud to Be SKD! Con-
gratulations to all!
May God continue to shower His
abundant blessings on Saint Katharine
Drexel Catholic School and our entire
community!

Dear Parishioners,
Have you ever been unable to explain
the "why" of Catholic beliefs? Have you
ever wondered why the Old Testament
sounds so different from the New Testa-
ment? In the Old Testament, God began
building a plan and laying a foundation for
the beautiful traditions of the Catholic
Faith. That plan was fulfilled by Jesus in
the New Testament.
FULFILLED: Uncovering the Biblical Foundations of
Catholicism is an apologetic approach to sharing the Catholic
Faith using the Old Testament Tabernacle as a blueprint for
God's plan. While it is designed as a faith-sharing Scripture
study, you will also gain an understanding of some of the most
questioned Catholic teachings. FULFILLED: Uncovering
the Biblical Foundations of Catholicism will reignite your
love of Scripture and help you share and defend the Catholic
Faith with the Word of God.
Detailed course brochures are available in the vestibule of
the church, parish office and St. Bede's Office of Religious
Education. This course begins November 13 - 9:45 a.m. to
11:15 a.m. (Morning session) & 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
(Evening session) in the Drexel Center. The fee is $40.00
(includes Sonja Corbitt's book: FULFILLED, the participant
study guide and refreshments.
Hope you are able to attend!

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is one of the most profound
types of prayer that we have as Catholics. Jesus wished to stay with
us, and the means He chose is the Blessed Sacrament. He is present,
Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity in the Most Holy Eucharist. At any
time of the day or night, you can come to the chapel and Jesus is
there…. waiting for You!
If you attended last week’s Forty Hours Devotion and want to con-
tinue your time with the Lord, please consider dedicating one hour
each week by filling one of our open hours or by sharing an hour with
a prayer partner.
St. Bede’s is blessed to have its’ own perpetual adoration chapel.
We need your help to keep our adoration perpetual (24 hours a day / 7
days a week).

Hello Everyone!!!
Each week’s Triple T gathering, the teens
meet, have dinner and discuss a topic related
to their lives and their Faith. Last Week the
teens met Seminarian Frankie Garcia for the
first time. This parish is blessed to have
seminarians come here each week to teach in
our school, do communion calls, join in our
RCIA program AND join
our Triple T discussions!.
Many parishes do not have
this gift, I am the envy of
my Youth Ministry
colleagues when I tell
them we have a seminarian
participating in our youth
group meetings. So,
PLEASE encourage your
H.S. teen to come to this weekly youth gathering. Triple T
meets every Thursday at 6pm in the Youth Center. Next
Thursday dinner is lasagna and the discussion topic is
„why to go to Mass?‟ Last week, several teens helped Ms. Obrokta, Our Director
of Religious Education, with preparing for the start of CCD.
Among the tasks they performed was testing the Walkie
Talkies system she recently purchased for the program to
ensure better communication and safety. This was their favor-
ite part of the service.
Next Sunday, Oct. 14 and the following Sunday we will
have the True Beauty and True Strength gatherings. These
are girls only and guys only groups that will meet to discuss
issues related to identity, dating, friendships , love and
chastity. The sessions will be led by Bob Bagdon and Kate
& Marielle Ramp, who are parishioners and members of our
Young Adults group. ALL youth in grades 7 to 12 are invited
to attend!!!
This weekend at all the masses you heard about the
KAIROS retreat experience.
This retreat is based on the
spiritual exercises of St. Ignati-
us of Loyola. It is a 3 day
experience like no other. I am
encouraging ALL our H.S.
Juniors and Seniors (especially
those in public school) to take
advantage of this opportunity.
You will not be disappointed. The KAIROS retreat is being
held Dec. 7-9 at St. Francis Retreat Center in Easton, PA. For more information contact the Youth Ministry office.
PLEASE NOTE: The cost for the retreat is $300., but if you
sign up by Oct. 25th you will get a $25 discount. SO SIGN

During the re-treat the young people open themselves up to God’s love as well as the love of their family and friends. The retreat creates an environment of acceptance and love in which participants can accept Christ more deeply in their lives. This retreat is based on the same model that is used at many of our Archdioc-esan High Schools. Youth from Public High Schools & parishes throughout Bucks County are invited to attend.
