A Message From Your Pastor My Dear Parishioners,
The Holy Season of Lent has begun! At least for me, when Lent begins, the thought of what it asks of us seems daunting, doesn’t it? I mean fasting and making extra sacrifices for seven weeks! But I always feel like it goes by so fast that you really have to have a plan, or it slips by before you know it.
So that is why I would like to highlight some of the Lenten programs and activities planned for here at St. Bede’s. For starters, we priests are making ourselves available for confessions on the Sundays of Lent, after the 9:30am Mass, up until the 11am Mass (and if necessary, because of the number of penitents) into the 11am Mass. We know that Saturday afternoon between 4pm and 5pm is not helpful for everyone. I also encourage our parishioners to participate in the Stations of the Cross, which we publicly pray on the Wednesdays of Lent at 2pm with our school, and Friday evenings at 7pm. When I was a child I remember being taught that among the various devotions in the Catholic Church, praying the Stations ranks very high. The reason is the Stations help to renew our appreciation of what Jesus endured as He climbed the hill to Calvary. The amazing thing is how everything He experienced that day we all experience at some period in our life, and that is consoling. This year we have two opportunities during Lent for married couples to reflect on the beautiful sacrament they live each day. I know as a priest when I attend workshops and retreats that are geared for my vocation, they renew my fervor. I imagine the same is true for married couples, with retreats designed for them. It’s not too late to register for our Day of Retreat being held here on Saturday March 23, led by Fr. Pio Mandato and Sr. Theresa May. “Appealing to the grace of the sacrament of Marriage can overcome any difficulties” will be their theme. The other marriage related program happening during Lent is the first of a three-part session for individuals, couples and families that is meant to renew Christian marriage and family life. It is entitled “Remain in My Love.” Nationally known speakers have been engaged by the Archdiocese for this very special initiative. Locally, it is being offered at Nativity of Our Lord Parish in Warminster on Sunday March 31, from 1pm to 3 pm (more on page 5 of this bulletin). Finally our annual Lenten Mission begins on Sunday March 31 at 7:30pm. This year the theme of the mission is “The Spirituality of St. Teresa of Liseux, the Little Flower.” What an appropriate theme: “Living with weaknesses while trusting in the mercy of God for ourselves and those for whom we love.” These are just a few of the many opportunities that are happening locally during Lent. Because of limited space in the bulletin, I encour-age you to also refer to our website for additional Lenten programs being held throughout the Archdiocese. May our celebration of Lent be a time of renewal and growth for all of us in our Catholic Faith!
May God Bless You,
"It is written: You shall worship the Lord, your God, and him alone shall you serve."(Luke 4: 8)

Scripture Readings for Next Sunday Second Sunday of Lent March 17, 2019 Genesis 15: 5-12, 17-18 Psalm 27: 1, 7-9, 13-14 Philippians 3: 17—4: 1 or 3: 20—4: 1 Luke 9: 28B-36 In the second reading, Saint Paul makes explicit the meaning of the Gospel of the transfiguration. “Our citizen-ship is in heaven,” he says. Just as God’s promise to Abra-ham in the first reading was fulfilled, so God will fulfill the promise of heavenly citizenship to us. Peter, John, and James are witnesses to the glory of Jesus Christ in which we all will share. Let us be attentive to God’s promises.

Fast and Abstinence And Other Acts of Penance
The Bishops of the United States prescribe, as minimal obligation, that all persons who are fourteen years of age and older are bound to abstain from eating meat on all the Fridays of Lent and Good Friday. Further, all persons eighteen years of age and older, up to and including their fifty-ninth birthday, are bound to fast by limiting themselves to a single full meal on Ash Wednesday and on Good Friday, while the other two meals on those days are to be light. All the faithful are encouraged, when possible, to participate at Mass and to receive the Holy Eucharist daily, to celebrate frequently the Sacrament of Penance, to under-take spiritual reading, especially the study of the Sacred Scriptures, and to participate in parish Lenten devotions as well as Lenten education programs. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is especially recommended. All are encouraged to participate in Operation Rice Bowl which has aided countless hungry persons here in the Archdiocese as well as throughout our nation and our world.

Principal’s Corner I would like to take the opportunity to offer a sincere “thank you” to those of you who have generously contributed to our SKD Annual Fund. Your contribution is an investment in our Saint Katharine Drexel students, in our mission to “form Catholic leaders through academic excellence, personal discipline, and Christian service” and, most of all, in our ongoing crusade to protect the future of Catholic education. If you have not done so already, I ask that you please consid-er making a contribution. All gifts are tax-deductible. In addi-tion to your generous support, I truly believe that you and your family share our same vision of the value of Catholic education for our children, which is why you are being asked to be a part of this group of benefactors to our Saint Katharine Drexel Annual Fund. On behalf of Monsignor Marine, Reverend Michael Davis, Mr. Daniel Clifton, and our entire Board of Directors for Saint Katharine Drexel Catholic School, we thank you for your support, love, generosity, and prayers. In the words of Saint Katharine Drexel, “Kindness is the natural fruit of goodness of the heart.”

Host Families Needed On April 4th the 8th graders of St. Katharine Drexel School will have a retreat day led by a team of missionaries from NET Ministries. There, young men and women give up a year of their lives to travel the country leading retreats and days of reflections for youth. The 12 member team travel, like the disciples, with very little per-sonal items and ‘survive’ off of the generosity of others. I am reaching out to you because we need HOST FAMILIES for them. It is for a one night stay (Wednesday night, April 3rd). The missionaries need to stay with at least one buddy (of the same gender) in a home. Please contact me if you have an available room and would be willing to host at least 2 of the missionaries.

Adoration Society “To maintain a close relationship with the God of Love, we must remain in that Holy Presence often. As the rays of the sun change and alter whatever they touch, so the Eternal Son, ever present in the Blessed Sacrament, changes whoever places himself in His Presence.” (Mother Angelica)
Eucharistic Adoration is often suggested as a wonderful Lenten practice. If you are not already a member of the Adoration Society we invite you to stop by the chapel for a visit. The Adoration Chapel is open 24 hours every day. You will appreciate the quiet and solitude where there are no cell phones, texting, tweeting and the like. Just you and Jesus - one on one. “Y our faith will help you to realize that it is Jesus Himself who is present in the Blessed Sacrament, waiting for you and calling you to spend one special specific hour with Him each week.” (Saint Pope John Paul II) If you have any questions or need more information please contact Debbie & Sean McDermott at 215-504-9897, e-mail us at [email protected] or sign up on line at https://st-bede.org/perpetual-adoration/

Hello Everyone!!!
Last weekend I was away on the Bucks County Regional Kairos Retreat which was sponsored by St. Bede and Mother Boniface Spirituality Center. Words can not express what a wonderful and Grace-filled weekend we had. There were 13 youth who attended from various parishes in our area. A special Thank you goes out to the leaders (who were from various par-ishes also) Maura Farell, Ed Klos, Chris Yingling, Lena Albert, Shannon Donnelly, Kevin Kozeniewski, Amy Riamondi and Brian Piekarski. Also a big Thank you to Father Tralies, Father O’Donald and Deacon Alex who were with us throughout the weekend. Here are some photos and statements from the partic-ipants.
Why would Kairos be valuable to someone:
* Because it helps you grow and make your relationship stronger with God. * It can help them realize who they are and God’s role in their life. * (Kairos) was an amazing experience. I learned how to grow in my faith and learn more about God and his love for us.
