Lighting Hearts on Fire

The Diocesan Year of Spiritual Renewal 2018-2019

“A good tree does not bear rotten fruit, nor does a rotten tree bear good fruit.” (Luke 6:43)

Are you using your God-given gifts in the way God intended? Do you compare yourself to others and complain about what you don’t have instead of being thankful for what you do have? God gives each of us unique gifts and a unique plan. Listen to how God is calling you to use your gifts, to bear good fruit, for the glory of His name.

READINGS FOR THE WEEK

Monday: Sir 17:20-24; Mk 10:17-27 Tuesday: Sir 35:1-12; Mk 10:28-31 Wednesday: Jl 2:12-18; 2 Cor 5:20 — 6:2; Mt 6:1-6, 16-18 Thursday: Dt 30:15-20; Lk 9:22-25 Friday: Is 58:1-9a; Mt 9:14-15 Saturday: Is 58:9b-14; Lk 5:27-32 Sunday: Dt 26:4-10; Rom 10:8-13; Lk 4:1-13

MEDITATION FOR March 3, 2019 Let us be faithful in speech and action. The first reading today uses the example of a slave to show how grain (good fruit) is separated from the husks (the dead shell). Tribulation and difficulties are sieves in our own lives-and when we are shaken, the real fruit of who we are will be revealed in both our speech and actions.

The writer of Sirach gives examples of how what is good is separated from what is poor, especially in speech. Saint Paul reminds us that Christ had defeated death-it no longer has power over us. In the Gospel, Jesus uses the parable of the blind leading the blind to show there is a difference between what is good and what is evil.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS

Stations of the Cross are held on Friday at 7:00 p.m. Below is the suggested schedule for children to attend: March 8 7th/8th Grades March 15 3rd Grade March 22 4th Grade March 29 5th Grade April 5 6th Grade April 12 1st & 2nd Grade—Special presentation of the Living Way of the Cross by the children of our parish. April 19 GOOD FRIDAY NO STATIONS OF THE CROSS - ONLY “Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion” 3:00 PM

As many as can are encouraged to attend on this very holy day! This is also a chance to visit the “Shrine of the Tomb of Christ” and venerate the “Relic of the True Cross of Christ.”

If you have children in different grades you can choose one Friday in Lent and attend all together as a family. The children are to sit with their families.

THE EASTER MYSTERY From His Wounded Side We Were Born This is the time of year when we begin to look forward to warmer weather and spring vacations. It is also the time of year when we pause to see where we’ve been and where we should be going. It is the time to recommit ourselves to the Lord.

During Lent, you will notice a basket with decorated index cards by the cross of St. Lucy starting on Ash Wednesday, March 6th, 2019. Listed on each card is a suggestion of a necessary item to be purchased for an organization that helps those in need. These items will be collected before all the weekend Masses on, March 9/10, March 16/17, March 23/24 and March 30/31. This is our way as a parish to reach out to others through “almsgiving”, one of the spiritual blessings of our Lenten journey. All donations need to be in by April 7th, 2019 Anything received after that date will be given to our Food Pantry.

As St. Theresa of Avila said: “We should not attach much value to what we have given God, since we shall receive for the little we have bestowed upon Him much more in this life and in the next.”

We Adore You O Christ and We Praise You, Because By Your Holy Cross You Have
