Communion Calls & Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick Can be arranged by calling the Rectory. Those confined to their homes or a hospital who desire a visit can notify the Rectory.
Sacrament of Reconciliation Scheduled for Saturday afternoon from 4:00 - 4:45 pm. During the week call the Rectory for an appointment.
Sacrament of Baptism Baptism of infant children is ordinarily following the 12 noon Sunday Mass. Parents can call the Rectory for more information or to begin the preparation process for their child’s Baptism.
Sacrament of Matrimony Members of the parish can call the rectory to schedule a meeting with the priest of the parish. Anticipate no less than six months to complete the prescribed marriage preparation.

WHAT WE CELEBRATE ON THE EPIPHANY
The story of the Magi is a drama that captures the im-agination. Matthew is teaching that Jesus came for the whole world. At the end of his Gospel, the risen Jesus will tell the Eleven to go “and make disciples of all nations.” The coming of Jesus into creation affects all people, all cultures, every part of human life. That is what “catholic” means—all-embracing. The “Church” is not western or eastern, black or white, European or Asian, Latin or English, Portuguese or Japa-nese. The Church is all of these. That is why diversity in the Church is essential—the Eastern and Western rites, the 300-plus languages in which the liturgy is celebrated, eth-nic customs, different schools of theology. The only way the Church can truly be “catholic” is to embrace a wide diversity—a sign of richness, not weakness. This story about the Magi “from the East” should set us thinking about whether our own hearts are all-embracing. We do not have a private God. We are sisters and brothers of the whole human race. When I receive Communion, I am joined with people of every race and color around the world. It is not simply a private audience with Jesus.
WHO WERE THE MAGI? The Magi (those mysterious figures from the East, about whom little is known) have long been the subject of stories and legends. In early tradition, they came to be looked upon as kings, probably because of Psalm 72 (written for the cor-onation ceremony of one David’s successors): “The kings of Arabia and Sheba shall bring tribute; all kings shall pay him homage.” No one knows how many Magi there were. The three gifts have given rise to the number commonly used, but some medieval Eastern lists have as many as 12 Magi. The Magi have been given various names. Those most commonly used go back to the sixth century: Caspar, Melchior, and Balthasar. An unknown writer a century or two later even provided a description (a description that has influenced artists ever since): “Caspar, young and beardless and ruddy complexioned . . Melchior, an old man with white hair and a long beard . . . Balthasar, black-skinned and heavily bearded.” Little Blue Book of Advent 2020, Diocese of Saginaw, MI

HAPPY NEW YEAR AND THANK YOU! St. Augustine clergy and staff are very grateful for the generosity of the outreach minis-tries of our parish. Your impact on the community has changed lives and helped so many in our community who are in need especially during this very difficult year. The effects of Covid have challenged everyone around the world. Thanks to the ingenuity and hard work of so
many, the parish was able to safely help many in need. Thank you to all whose time and talents enabled the life of the Parish to continue especially during a challenging year. These include Liturgical Ministers, Support Groups, Scripture Study, Prayer Groups etc. Food for the Journey has raised more than $30,000 and donated tons of food as well as sent over $21,000 to four local food pantries and special families in need in our community. Thank you for your support of this important mission. Sr. Suzanne, Director of Family Health Services, Little Sisters of the Assumption has written to us, “I represent 350—400 families in words of gratitude, who are feeding their children with less anxiety and at times desper-ation.” The annual Thanksgiving Drive helped more families than ever before this year. Volunteers, facilitators, donors, drivers, cooks etc. helped to make it possible to deliver over 600 Thanksgiving meals on Thanksgiving day. $15,000 was also donated to local food pantries and families were provided with Stop and Shop gift cards. Midnight Run also successfully provided some of the homeless in New York City with food, toiletries, clothes and conversation. Financial contributions were sent to the Midnight Run organization to continue the extraordinary job they do to help the homeless in New York City. Your support of the Angel Tree Project was remarkable. Because of CoVid, most of the giving was done online and went directly to the organizations. Your overwhelming response has enabled us to provide gift cards, toys, clothing, and financial support and provided over 1,000 gifts to persons of all ages (especially chil-dren) and cash donations over $7,000.00. Much gratitude is given especially from: Little Sisters of the As-sumption, Cardinal McCloskey Home, Youth Shelter Program of Westchester, Children’s Center of Bedford Hills Correctional Facility, St. Rita's Clinic; Seniors & Special Families . As one organization stated in a thank you, “We were completely overwhelmed by the generosity of the Angel Tree”
Because of you hundreds of people in our community will be having a Merrier Christmas. Please remember all those who are suffering during this very difficult time, in your prayers. Perhaps reach out to a family member or friend with a phone call or a letter. Unfortunately the need will continue in the coming months. They are grounded in the belief that “education means enabling per-sons to reach the fullness of their potential as individuals created in God’s image and assisting them to direct their gifts toward building the earth.” tuition is free and totally dependent on individual donations and grants.

Founded in 1911, St. Peter’s continues to educate students from South Yonkers. The pandemic has forced the school to postpone or cancel major fundraising efforts making the need for the children more than any time be-fore. A values-based Catholic education is vital to form students into people who are prepared to enact change and live successful lives of service. EPIPHANY SUNDAY January 3rd is Epiphany Sunday this year. If you do not attend Mass in Church, please join in the Mass recorded at St. Augustine that will
be sent to by email that day and available on the St. Augus-tine website. Because of the pandemic, we will not be cele-brating Epiphany with the annual reunion of Baptism 2020 families. We will be posting photos, artworks depicting kings offering the child Jesus their gifts by email, on our Fa-cebook page (Church of St. Augustine, Larchmont) and by Instagram. On this important feast of the visit of the Three Kings, recognized throughout the world, let us pray for all the children of the world, and continue to offer what gifts we have to them. Some ongoing ways to do that locally is through our own parish fund to address hunger, Food for the Journey (see our parish website under Stewardship); domestically, through Catholic Charities; and international-ly, through Catholic Relief Services.
