I am happy to announce that Mr. Bruce Schooler will become Principal of St. Augustine School In July. Mr. Schooler is currently the Principal of Aquinas School in the Gary Diocese. After 25 years of dedicated service to our parish, Anne Dumas has decided it is time to retire. Anne began as a classroom teacher in 1991. She worked with 4th and 5th grades for three years. In 1994 with the growing use of computers, Anne became Technology Coordinator and the computer teacher. She also took on the job of Librarian. In 2006, she became Principal and this year marks her 10th year in that capacity. Through all these years, she has proven a strong advocate for the school, always faithful to our mission to see that our children continue to grow in maturity, grace, and wisdom. Anne, we wish you much happiness in retirement: leisure, time with family and grandchildren, and aging gracefully. Our prayers will follow you into retirement. I think that instead of waiting to miss you after June 30th, we’ll all start to miss you now.
All our love, Fr. Don and St. Augustine’s
Herman Nagel Server Awards A few years back, a group of St. Augustine
Parishioners created a program to honor and reward our high school senior class servers that have
continued to serve mass throughout their entire high school career. These awards are known as the
Herman Nagel Server Awards in recognition of Herman Nagel who served at St. Augustine Parish his entire life. Our goal is to provide
each recipient with a $500 award at the graduation mass. If you are interested in helping support this program, please contact
Cheryl Hillan (866-3912), Marvin Nagel (394-2464) or Marty Park (863-1768). Your financial support is greatly appreciated.

A Note from the Parish Nurse:
St. Augustine is supporting the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition in honor of National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. During the month of May, we challenge all adults to get 30 minutes of physical activity every day.
Did you know that regular physical activity increases your chances of living a longer, healthier life? It also reduces your risk for high blood pressure, heart disease, and some types of cancer.
The Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans recommend that adults:
Aim for 2 hours and 30 minutes of moderate aerobic activity each week. Moderate activity includes things like walking fast, dancing, swimming, and raking leaves.
Do muscle-strengthening activities – like lifting weights or using exercise bands – at least 2 days a week.
Physical activity is for everyone. No matter what shape you are in, you can find activities that work for you. Together, we can rise to the challenge and get more active during the month of May!
I am looking to put together a walking team for our parish. We would walk for a cause. Whether we walk for relay for life, breast cancer, or even a local 5K. Please let me know if interested by contacting the church office or myself.
Your parish nurse, Jocelyn Ventrello

Helping Those Who Inspire Others Addrian Frederick, who grew up in our St.
Augustine Parish is currently raising funds to support Candace Scott. Please read his
message: Candace Scott is the most inspirational woman I have ever met. In 2007, when Candace was 26, she was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer. After surgeries,
12 weeks of chemo, and 34 radiation treatments, she was declared cancer-free. In 2009, she was
diagnosed with inoperable Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer to both lungs. She was told she had about 3 years to live. She has
been FIGHTING ever since! !n dedication to what Candace and her family have been through, I
will make a 1,000-mile journey on my bike (with my expenses already covered) from Texas to Wheatfield, IN. 100% of the
proceeds of your donations will go towards: 1) Candace’s ongoing medical expenses, and 2) The greater portion of the proceeds to
be made to the charity of Candace’s choice. In honor of Candace, and her always-uplifting selfless love for us, let us show our love!

Knights of Columbus Pork Chop Dinner The Knights of Columbus will be having a pork
chop dinner on Saturday, May 21st at the hall. Serving will be from 5:30 to 7:30 and dinner
will include grilled pork chop, potatoes, green beans, salad, and dessert.
American Flag Ceremony The Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will be
conducting an American Flag Ceremony in June of this year. From now until the date of the ceremony, the K of C will be collecting flags that are worn and
torn, no longer serviceable. In a week or two, we will be placing a container in the vestibule of our church where your flags can be deposited. All clean American flags being donated should be
properly folded before placing them in the K of C container. We appreciate your help in making our planned event successful. If
you have any questions, please call Bob Evans at 765-426-7600. Thank you.
