CHURCH OF ST. AUGUSTINE, Larchmont, New York May 31st
PENTECOST SUNDAY
QUOTE FROM THE PASTOR:
“The risen Christ said to them, ‘Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature.’” Mark 16:5
Pastor’s Corner
PENTECOST
I’ve been baptized and, like the disciples on that first Pentecost, I’ve been immersed in the Spirit. I’ve been called to carry out in my life the Lord’s work. It’s mission specific to me because, since the beginning of time, there has been no one exactly like me. And until the end of time, there will be no one exactly like me. Now I could say, “Okay, I’ve been called by God to be a Chrsitian. . . . I’ve been baptized, and I’m a member of the Church, and I’ve got to try my best to be a faithful mem-ber of the Church. So I go to Mass each Sunday. I turn in my envelope. I observe Lent and don’t eat meat on Fri-days. But that’s too generic. It’s sort of a “beige Chrsitianity” - bland, flat, ordinary, uninteresting, standard, predictable stuff. That wasn’t the color of the response of the apostles or any of the other holy people whom I’ve read about this Easter season. Their response, their discipleship was in bright colors . . . Very personal, striking. I need to take my response to God’s call to the next level, down deep inside of me where my truest self lives. Little Books of the Diocese of Saginaw, Inc.

PARISH STEWARDSHIP We are grateful to all who contribute so generously each week. We do recommend
that you use parish envelopes or WeShare. Please call the rectory for details or to register.
Total Collection Last Week—$3,595.00 Total ParishPay was $4,000.00 Total Collection — $7,595.00
Given the circumstances of our community, our na-tion, our world—this is a remarkable collection. Thank you. Your support is much needed. Please keep up your good work which enables our parish to do its work. P.S. I am concerned that people and families are hun-gry. As unemployment has reached 20% plus, the de-mand for food at our community food banks has multi-plied. Non-perishable food may be left in the church vestibule between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm to be delivered
to Hope Pantry in New Rochelle especially Cereal, Soup, Pasta and Peanut Butter. Financial donations may be left or mailed to the rectory and they will be for-warded to our local food pantries. Please add “Virus Re-lief Fund” to the memo section. Again thank you and let’s continue to work together to feed the hungry.
CARE FOR THE EARTH Action of the Week
Stop Overwatering Your Lawn — It takes just 1” of water a week to maintain a healthy lawn and encourage strong roots to help out
compete weeds. Don’t have a rain gauge? Use an empty tuna can instead. Shut the water off when it reaches the top. You are done for the week. If you have a yard sprinkler system, make sure you schedule your sprinklers at the right time. Stop your sprinklers a few hours before nightfall to al-low the grass surface to completely dry.

IF YOU CAN HELP OR IF YOU ARE IN NEED OF ASSISTANCE
I f you have the time and would like to help some-one who may need some assistance at this difficult time with a phone call, delivery of medicine and or food, OR If you are someone who is in need of some com-forting words and or deliveries of essentials etc.
Please call the rectory at 914-834-1220 or email: [email protected].
We are so grateful for those offering assis-tance during this unusual and difficult time. As every day emerges we are one step closer to re-suming a sense of normalcy in our life. While that sounds reassuring, it will be a “new normal”. That in itself should fill us with expectation and hope, espe-cially during this Easter season. Stay well and be safe.

PRAYER FOR A PANDEMIC May we who are merely inconvenienced remember those whose lives are at stake. May we who have no risk factors remember those most vulnerable. May we who have the luxury of working from home remember those who must choose between
preserving their health or making their rent. May we who have the flexibility to care for our children when their schools close remember those who have no op tions. May we who have to cancel our trips remember those who have no safe place to go. May we who are losing our margin money in the tumult of the economic market remember those who have no mar gin at all. May we who have settled in for quarantine at home remember those who have no home as fear grips our country, let us choose love. During this time when we cannot physically wrap our arms around each other; let us yet find ways to be the loving embrace of God to family, friends and neighbors. Amen.
