From the Pastor’s Desk...
After surfacing and naming my center, will I allow Scripture and Tradition to engage and challenge my lived-center with The Center as presented by our religion, for example in such phrases as:
▪ God is The Center.
▪ God reveals Himself to us and gives his very Self to us in Jesus.
▪ Jesus is always (i.e. never not) drawing us and all creation into Himself. He is always and everywhere incorporating into his very Self a redeemed, rightly-ordered creation as He returns to the Father.
▪ Through this Sacramental Encounter---on a regular basis, over time, in a way that respects free will and human development---we can be more and more fully at-one with The Christ.
▪ As we take the Body of Christ into our bodies He incorporates us with others into His Body: the Church, the Way.
▪ Even after a Mass has concluded, Jesus remains with us in a way that that is Personal and Ongoing in the bread that has been consecrated.
UNI-VERSE – T.S. Eliot’s phase “the still-point of a turning world” comes to mind in relation to the Christ of God---the One around whom all time, space, and creation revolve, and the One toward whom all our thoughts, words, and actions are being drawn, re-oriented, re-configured and redeemed
GRAVITY & MASS – Gravity attracts. The source of gravity is mass. The greater the mass, the stronger the gravitational pull (eg., our earth has greater pulling power than our moon). I find myself being increasingly struck that we refer to our celebration of the Most Blessed Sacrament as “Mass” and that we refer to this Mass as being “Grave Matter”. In the preface for
Mass today we will hear that Christ our King is “reigning from the Altar of the Cross”, drawing us and all creation into Himself as He returns us and all creation into right relationship with the Father. Matter. Mass. Gravity. “And when I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw everyone to myself” (John 12:32).
“THE END” – Today is the “End Sunday” of the Year of Grace 2019. On the one hand the word “end” can mean that we have reached a limit: there will be no more Sundays in the Liturgical Year 2019. On the other hand the word “end” can refer to a goal: that all creation will revolve around one center point (literally a “uni-verse”) in full and free acknowledgment that Jesus is the Christ of God. He is not only creation’s center of balance but also creation’s origin (“Alpha”) and end (“Omega”). Jesus Christ is Lord, Jesus Christ is King.
THE CENTER – In his poem The Second Coming, W. B. Yeats wrote: “Things fall apart. The center cannot hold”. Our Faith proposes that there is a
Center Who holds all things in existence and Who holds all things together: see John 1:1-3; Colossians 1:15-29; Ephesians 1:3-23; Ephesians 4:12-13; Philippians 2:6-11.
EC-CENTRISM? - Am I flying off in all directions? If so, it’s probably because I do not have a center. Or more precisely, it’s because my center (my children’s activity schedule, pleasing everyone, keeping up with the Jones’, ageless aging,
abs or buns of steel, getting even, maintaining my resentments, being right, not being bothered, my favorite sports team, etc.) is not The Center. Our ancient Tradition speaks of disordered attachments and today psychology speaks of attachment disorders.
REBOOTING OUR POINT OF BALANCE - The start of the new Year of Grace next Sunday almost dares us to name our focal point, to bring to light our hub, the
center around which our hours and energies revolve. Who or what is my gravitational center, my point of balance?

We invite our members and guests to give thanks on Thanksgiving Day by participating in our 9:00 AM Mass in St. Ann Chapel this Thursday. We’ll be collecting non-perishable food items for PACS and all funds contributed that day will be given to St. Mary’s Franciscan Shelter. Please place your food donations on the front porch of 602 (the building next to Chapel).
