PASTOR’S PERSPECTIVE Dear parishioners:

It is with deep regret and profound sadness that I share with you the news of the closure of Saint Agatha School, effective June 30, 2017.

This difficult decision was reached due to the continuing economic challenges faced by the school and a rapidly decreasing pool of students choosing Catholic school education. This school year, assuming that we have 175 students enrolled, the budgeted cost for educating each child is $5,329. Meanwhile, our tuition remains $3,949 per student, with a total enrollment of 144 students in Kindergarten through grade 8.

Despite our best efforts, Saint Agatha School has continued to lose students in the past seven years. This school year, there are eight classes with less than 20 students. While some parents cherish the small class atmosphere, realistically, tuition for this type of education would approach $15,000 per student. Our families are unable to afford this tuition. Even with our current tuition, many of our families require financial assistance.

The parish does not have the resources to subsidize the school for the future without negatively affecting parish programs and ministries. The current school budget is indeed very thin and our school administration and faculty have lived within its constraints. To attempt to continue the school while further curtailing academic services and extra-curricular activities would be a serious disservice to our students. Also, the necessary staff constrictions would contribute to the on-going deterioration of the school.

The Diocesan Office of the Superintendent of Schools, in conjunction with the school administration, will make every effort to transition our students to other Catholic elementary schools. The community of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Academy has extended an invitation to each family to register there. An Information Night will be held in Kelly Hall at 7 PM on Wednesday, January 18.

The closure of a school is not an easy experience for anyone concerned. However, mindful of the heroic efforts parents are making to provide quality Catholic education for their children, we have to choose what serves them best, even if it is a painful option. Let us pray for one another at this difficult time.

WELCOME SISTERS MARIA AND ROSA We are happy to welcome two more Sisters to Saint

Agatha Convent. Sr. Maria Bich Nguyen and Sr. Rosa Ngoc Pham came from Vietnam and are members of the Missionary Sisters of Mary, Queen of the World. They have been studying English in Wisconsin for about a year. Now they will pursue further studies at St. Francis College. Please join me in giving Sr. Maria and Sr. Rosa our warmest welcome and heartfelt support.

OUR LADY OF ALTAGRACIA’S

CELEBRATION To celebrate Our Lady of Altagracia, Protector and

Queen of the Dominican Republic, we began a Novena in her honor on Friday, January 13, which will conclude on Saturday, January 21, at the 7:00 PM Mass. There will be a light reception after Mass. All are invited.

CHINESE NEW YEAR CELEBRATION To celebrate the Year of the Rooster, Bishop Paul

Sanchez will celebrate a solemn Mass with us at 3:00 PM on Sunday, January 29, followed by an Ancestor Veneration Ceremony, and concluding with a New Year party in the School Auditorium. In order to make proper planning for this joyful occasion, we ask everyone who wishes to join the party to please register with Sr. Dilecta before January 22. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Larger donations are welcome and greatly appreciated.

PARISH ANNIVERSARY

To celebrate the beginning of our parish’s 105th year, we will start a novena to St. Agatha on Friday, January 27. Every night, we will begin at 6:30 PM with a trilingual rosary and end with a Mass. On Sunday, February 5, Bishop Raymond Chappetto will celebrate a solemn trilingual Mass with us at 12:15 PM, followed by a reception in Kelly Hall. We will not have a 3:00 PM Chinese Mass that day. All parish groups are expected to arrange their schedule so that all our parishioners can celebrate the whole novena with us. If any group would like to be in charge of any night of the novena, please contact Fr. Do.

LA PERSPECTIVA DEL PÁRROCO Queridos feligreses: Es con un profundo pesar y profunda tristeza que comparto con ustedes la noticia del cierre de la Escuela de Santa Agatha, a partir del 30 de junio de 2017. Esta difícil decisión fue alcanzada debido a los continuos desafíos económicos enfrentados por la escuela y le disminuyo rápido de estudiantes que eligen la educación escolar católica. Este año escolar, asumiendo que tenemos 175 estudiantes matriculados, el costo de presupuesto para educar a cada niño es de $5,329. La comunidad Academia Católica de Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro ha extendido una invitación a cada familia a registrarse allí. ORACIÓN POR LOS NIÑOS NO NACIDOS Nuestro grupo de jóvenes, Una

CELEBRACION DE NOSTRA SENORA DE ALTAGRACIA En celebración de Nuestra Señora de la

Altagracia, Protector y Reina de la República Dominicana, hemos empezado una Novena el viernes, 13 de enero, que concluirá el sábado, 21 de enero, en la Misa de las 7 PM. Habrá una recepción después de la Misa. Todos están invitados.

ANIVERSARIO PARROQUIAL Para celebrar el inicio del 105º año de nuestra parroquia, comenzaremos una novena a Santa Agatha el viernes 27 de enero. Cada noche, comenzaremos a las 6:30 PM con un rosario trilingüe y terminaremos con una Misa. El domingo, febrero 5, el Obispo Chappetto celebrará una misa solemne trilingüe con nosotros a las 12:15 PM, seguida por una recepción en Kelly Hall. No tendremos una misa china de las 3:00 PM ese día. Se espera que todos los grupos de la parroquia arreglen su horario para que todos nuestros feligreses puedan celebrar toda la novena con nosotros. 神父的话 主爱的兄弟姐妹：

怀着深深地遗憾及悲伤之情，我通知大家，我

们的圣亚佳德学校将于 2017 年 6 月 30 日关闭。

这一艰难的决定是因为学校经济方面的难题，

及选择入学天主教学校学生人数的急剧减少。这

一学年，假如说我们有 175 位学生注册，每位学生

的预算是$5329，但是我们的学费仍然为$3949,从

幼儿园到八年级的学生总数却只有 144 位。

虽然我们尽了最大力量，圣亚佳德学校在过去

的七年中仍然不断地流失学生。今年共有八个班

级学生人数少于 20 个，虽然一些家长喜欢这种小

班级的氛围，可事实上这种教育环境需要的经费

为每位学生$15000，我们的家庭不能负担，就是我

们现在的学费，一些家庭也申请了经济补助。

堂区没有足够的经费来源长期补助学校，这样

堂区各项事务势必会受到影响。目前学校的经费

实在是很少，学校的管理层及教职员很受此制约，

如果继续学校的运营而降低学术服务及课外活

动，对学生将是一个严重的危害。同样，对教职员

的必要缩减也会影响学校的持续衰退。

教区的教育办公室将和学校管理人员一起，努

力帮助我们的学生转到其他的天主教学校。永助

圣母天主教学校已经表示欢迎我们的学生去那里

注册。1月 18 日（星期三）晚上七点钟，在学校礼

堂将会分享更多的信息。

学校的关闭对任何相关的人都不是件容易的

事情，但是，看到家长们为了给孩子们提供高质量

的天主教学校教育所做的英雄式的努力，我们选

择为他们做最好的，即使是一个痛苦的选择。让我

们在这个艰难的时刻彼此祈祷。

玛利亚世界之后传教修女会。她们在威斯康辛州

学习了约一年的英文，将在圣方济学院继续她们

天主教病患关怀团聚会 敬请天主教病患关怀团的成员於1月17日（星
