    1. The KBSR UPSR Science paper is only evaluated at the central level

    by the Examination Board.

    2. The important point that pupils must be aware of the UPSR

    examination are as follows :

    Evaluation : Central levelScope : The Primary School Years 4, 5 and 6SyllabusTime allocated : 1 hour 15 minutesQuestion type : Section A : 30 objective questions

    - Multiple choice questions: Section B : 4 or 5 questions

    - Structured questionsProposed time : Section A : 45 minutes

    Allocation : Section B : 30 minutes

    Section A

In this section, there are a total of 30 questions. The questions are designed to

test the science process skills of the pupils. For example: making inferences,

    classification, etc.

    Section B

    A) In this section, 4 or 5 questions are asked. The questions are usually based

on experiments. The questions will usually contains diagrams, tables,

observations, etc. Most questions will be related to the following :

    a) Starting the experiment objectives

    b) Determining the variables

    c) Making the hypothesis

    d) Starting the pattern of change in a variable in the form of a table or graph

    e) Making inferencesf) Making predictions

    g) Identifying relationships between variables

    h) Making conclusions

If a pupi l can recogn ise the quest ion type and pract ise the method o f

answering, he or she can achieve a hig h sco re.

    B. Techniques and methods to help pupils answer question in

    Section B are outlined below:

    Step 1

Determine the title/topic asked according to the table or diagram provided.

    Step 2

    Underline the important keywords.

    Step 3

Find variables and classify them into these three categories:

    (i)Manipulated variables

    (ii)Responding variables

    (iii)Constants variables

    Step 4

    Start answering the question.

    C. Technique to answer the questions (format)

    1. Questions that test on objectives

Explore the influence of manipulated variables towards the responding

variables, or Explore the relationship between manipulated variables andresponding variables.

    2. Questions that test on patterns of change

    Increase / decrease

    3. Questions that test on variables

    (a) Manipulated variables

    - During the experiment : materials / factors that we can control

    (b) Responding variables

-After the experiment : the products of the experiment

    (c) Contant variables

    - Materials/ factors that remain the same throught the experiment.

    4. Questions that test on making a hypothesis

With the increase/decrease in a certain manipulated variable, there will be an

increase/ decrease in a responding variable, or

If there is a manipulated variable, then the responding variable.

    5. Questions that test on making a hypothesis

    The responding variable . . . Because . . . manipulated. . .

    6. Questions that test on making inferencesThe responding variable . . . Because . . . The manipulated variable. . .

    7. Questions that test on making predictions

    . . . will . . .

    8. Questions that test on making conclusions.

Similar to making a hypothesis or making a statement based on the findings

    from an experiments.
