The title of this photo essay is “Life at Hualumphoong”. The photographs inthis portfolio were taken at Huamlumphoon Train Station, the biggest and the terminalstation of Thailand. The concept of this photo essay is basically the presentation ofthe activities inside the train station. I choose this topic because I feel thatHualumphoong is a train station that has a life of its own. Not only is it themost famous train station in Thailand, there are many movements and busyness thatoccurs in there. In this photo essay, there are photographs of not only the terminal itself, but also pictures of life in Huamlumphoong. For example, there are photographsof people buying the train tickets and photographs of people falling asleep while waitingfor the trains, to the train departuring. The pictures show the process of events in the story. In this photo essay, I decided to make the pictures all black and white. This is because I feel that it will support the mood of the story. I think that Hualumphoong station gives out a feeling of old school and retrospective. In this project, I try to capture pictures that will attract the viewers to it’s meanings and humor. Mostly, I focuses on the different aspects of the people and their actions in the train station.
“Life at Hualumphoong”
Snooze
I choose this shot as the signature shot of my photo essay. The reason I choose this picture is because I believe that I took
this picture at the decisive moment, therefore the man’s position isvery interesting and able to add humor to the picture.
“Life at Hualumphoong”
The Terminal
This is a picture of the front of Hualumphoong Station. This angle shows the scene of the building and it displays the overall
of the entrance.
“Life at Hualumphoong”
Buying the Tickets
This is a picture of the people queuing in lines for the train tickets. This picture acts as a transition from the introductory shot to the
other activitiesthe goes on at the Hualumphoong Station.
“Life at Hualumphoong”
Sleeping with a Cigarette in Hand
This is a shot of a man sleeping on one of the benches on the trains’ platforms. This picture emphasizes the man rather than his surroundings. Also, this shot focuses on one element and is the closed up on one person.
“Life at Hualumphoong”
Weary This is one of my favorite picture because I really like the contrast of the woman and her flour bag to the KFC sign at the back. This picture also focuses
on few elements.
“Life at Hualumphoong”
Power Nap This picture shows the image of people sleeping in the train stationIn this picture, I find the lighting and the headlights on the four of the
guys’ faces really interesting. Also, I’m attracted to the composition of the picture and the people’s locations in this frame.
“Life at Hualumphoong”
Drift Off
Is is the shot of the waiting benches infront of the ticket boots.I took this picture from the second floor down. I choose this picture because
the images of the sleeping men can bring out the attention of the viewer. This picture is the introductory picture because it displays the overall activity
that goes on inside the station.
“Life at Hualumphoong”
Where’s My Train?
In this picture, it shows the interaction of the two girls. They are looking down on a piece of paper which I assumed that they
are figuring out the trains that they should be heading to. I choose this picturebecause I like the bright light from the backgroud that contrast with the elements
at the front of the picture. I also like the shadows of the people walking on the floor.
“Life at Hualumphoong”
Departure
This picture shows the train leaving the station. I think that thispicture is the sequence picture of this photo essay because all the other
pictures show the moods inside the train station, while this picture showsthe action of the train leaving and acts as an ending of the story.
“Life at Hualumphoong”
Extravaganza
I choose this picture as the closing picture because it acts as a summarizationof the photo essay. This shot is a panorama shot taken inside the train station
and as a result, the viewers can see the overall and the layout of Hualumphoong.
