CongratulationsIn the seca 780/1/2/3 electronic personalscale you have acquired a highly accurateand at the same time sturdy piece ofequipment.seca has been putting its experience at theservice of health for over 150 years, and asmarket leader in many countries of theworld, is always setting new standards withits innovative weighing and measuringdevelopments.The seca 780/1/2/3 electronic personalscale is designed for private use and alsofor use in public institutions.Weight display can be switched betweenkilogrammes (kg), pounds (Ibs) and stones(sts).The seca 781 are digital-display scaleswith an LCD display. They have the new“mother-and-baby” function with Auto-Hold display and display your weight up to150 kg, 330 lbs or 23 st in 50 g, 2 oz or 0.1lb graduations.The seca 782 differ from the seca 780 inthat they have a permanent display and anexternal power supply.

SafetyBefore using the new scale, please take alittle time to read the following safetyinstructions.• Follow the instructions in the instructions

for use.

• Use only the type of battery stated (see,,Changing the batteries“ 780/781/783).

• Use only the mains unit supplied(782/783).

• Do not drop the scale or subject it toviolent shocks.

• Have repairs carried out only byauthorised persons.

Before you start …Setting up the scalesRemove all packaging.The scales areeasiest and safest to put together if youplace the weighing platform face-down ona table (ideally over 77 cm high).

Fitting the columnThe column with the LCD display is fitted tothe weighing platform.– Guide the connecting cable through the

opening.– Place the column in the opening.– Screw the column to the weighing

platform from underneath. If necessary,lay the scale carefully on its side in orderto tighten up the screws.

– Connect the plug of the connectingcable to the rear of the scale.

– Then stand the scale upright again.

Installing and changing batteries(seca 780 / 781 / 783)Insert batteries in the battery bracket.Press the lock in the lid ofthe batterycompartmentin thedirection ofthe word“BATTERY”and flip openthe lid. Press

How to weigh properly ...Start scales and set to zeroPress the green Start button: the displayfirst shows for 1 sec., then the fulldisplay for 1 sec., then automatically .The scales are now ready to use. If whenunladen the scales should not showexactly , but for example or

, they can be re-set to byswitching off and back on again using thegreen Start key.To switch off the scales, simply press theStart key.

WeighingIs the display on zero? Then you can start!Simply stand on the scales and keep still.The display now shows your weight.

Switching between kg/lbs/stsIf you want weight displayed in a unit otherthan the one displayed, then press the kg/lbs switch on the display surface afterswitching the scales on or duringweighing. The unit selected is shown bythe indicator “kg”, “lbs” or "sts" on the right-hand side of the display.In order to display stones, you must keepthe key for switching between kg/lbs/stsdepressed for at least 2 seconds.Pressing the key briefly takes you back to akg display. Holding it down for a long time(at least 2 seconds) switches you betweenlbs and sts.The scales always start with the unit theywere displaying when switched off.

Automaticswitch-off/economy modeThe scale automatically detects whether itis being operated on rechargeablebatteries alone or whether it is connectedto the mains.● With rechargeable battery operation:

automatic shut-down after 30 seconds.● With mains operation: shut-down only

via keypad.

Temperature changesIf the scales are exposed to a severechange in temperature either before orduring use, then to avoid smallmeasurement errors, you should wait 15minutes for the scales to adapt to the newtemperature. A flashing display indicatesthat the scales are being operated duringtemperature changes which are toosevere.

Mains operation (seca 782 / 783 )The scale is powered by a mains unit. Theconnection socket for the mains unit is inthe base of the scale. kg/lbs/sts

You must check before connecting theequipment whether the AC voltagegiven on the mains unit matches thelocal mains voltage given on yourelectricity meter.• Carefully tilt the scale to one side so that

the base of the scale is accessible.• Plug the latching plug of the mains unit

into the connection socket in the base ofthe scale.

• Stand the scale back up again.• Connect the mains unit to a power

socket.• If the digital display now comes on,

switch off the scale using the STARTkey.

Weighing with mother / childfunction (seca 781)(see Page 12)The mother / child function was developedto weigh both an adult and a child inthe arms of the adult to an accuracyof within 50g.Where two scales used to beneeded, the seca 781 is nowall you require.

CleaningClean the outside of the scale as requiredusing a domestic cleaning agent or acommercially available disinfectant. Followthe manufacturer’s instructions.

What do I do if ...… the scales flash because they have

been loaded for over 1.5 min?● Briefly take the load off the scales until

they display .… the display flashes because the scales

have been exposed to severe changesin temperature?● Put the scales somewhere else or

allow them to adjust to the newtemperature.

… appears in the display?● Batteries will soon be running out,

change batteries.… appears in the display?

● Change batteries…a number, e.g. 12, appears in the right-

hand side of the display?● You have inadvertently pressed

several keys at once and put thescale in “service mode”. Do not pressany more keys and turn off the scalesusing the green Start key. You canthen start the scales quite normallyagain.

… the display stays dark after beingswitched on?● You’ve almost certainly forgotten to

put batteries in.…no weight display appears?

● Check whether the load lever iscorrectly suspended from theconnecting rod.

● Re-set scales to zero: start againusing the green Start key – the displaywill first show and thenautomatically jump to zero.

scales when starting them. Take loadoff scales and re-start using the greenStart key.

incorrect temperature range. Ensurethat the scales are operated between0 °C and 40 °C.

… appears in the display?• Maximum load has been exceeded.

ServicingYour seca scale leaves the factory with anaccuracy better than ± 0,4 /0,2 %. Toensure that this degree of accuracy ismaintained, the product must be carefullyset up and regulary serviced. Dependingon frequency of use, we recommendservicing at intervals of 3 to 5 years. Pleasenote that a qualified servicing agent shouldbe used for this. If you are in doubt, secaCustomer Service will give you moreinformation.

Use this “2 in 1” function as outlined below:

Preparation– Press the green Start key and wait

for the display

– Mount the scale without the child and The display shows your weight.stand still.

– The weight can be read off.

Weighing the child– Press the key “2 in 1” Your weight is now saved and resetting occurs. the indicator “NET” lights up and

appears in the display.

– Hold the child for weighing. If nobody can pass you the child, you can also get off the scale to fetch him / her.The seca 781 continues to save your weight and appears in the display.

– The weight of the child is displayed andremains in the display after two seconds.

– You can now weigh the next child. When the LED indicator in the mother / child symbol flashes, the weight of the child isshown in the display. The child’s weight remains in the display until you get off the scaleand then get back on it again, e.g. with another child. In this case too, the weight of thechild is displayed and then kept in the display. This procedure can be repeated as oftenas you like. However, you must ensure that the same adult always takes the child onto thescale, and the weight of this person must not change during a series measurement.

Deactivating themother / child function– Press the “2 in 1” key again. The scale now once again operates in its normal operating state. You can stand on the

scale with or without a child, or you can stand next to the scale when you press the key.Or – press the Start key The scale restarts. It should be unloaded.Or – The scale switches itself off two

minutes after the last weighing procedure.
