SAFETY POLICY SCOPE This policy is applicable to all the entities of De Beers. Members of De Beers may adapt the policy to include local legislative and stakeholder priorities within the countries in which they operate. RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE POLICY The maintenance, revision and distribution of this policy are the responsibility of the De Beers Group Head of Safety and Sustainable Development. SAFETY POLICY De Beers is committed to taking responsibility for the short and long term economic, social and environmental implications of decisions across the diamond pipeline. We commit to building diamond dreams through effective partnerships and enhancing the confidence of consumers in the diamond product. In pursuit of the highest standards of safety and a vision of Zero Harm, De Beers is committed to: y Managing all aspects of this safety policy as an integral part of business. y Holding leaders accountable for the safety of our people. We expect our leaders to provide effective safety leadership while recognising that good safety behaviour is the responsibility of all who work for us. y Complying with relevant legislation and other requirements to which De Beers subscribes and aligning with international good practice. y Identifying hazards, undertaking risk assessments and developing appropriate standards during all phases of exploration, mining operations and related supply activities. y Developing internal safety standards and guidelines to mitigate the risks and hazards associated with its our entire value chain. y Requiring all producing mines to be certified compliant with OHSAS 18001 requirements; while ensuring that the management of all other entities be compliant with these requirements, as the foundation for continual improvement. y Allocating appropriate resources and providing training, education, awareness and, consultation to ensure compliance. y Setting appropriate objectives and monitoring progress against these to ensure continual improvement towards our goals. y Providing independent audit and assurance and conducting regular management reviews. y Regularly monitoring, auditing and reviewing safety performance and compliance to ensure continual improvement. y Conducting open communication with our employees, contractors, suppliers and other business partners as well as with interested third parties to encourage a safety culture that reflects the intent of this policy. y Influencing joint venture partnerships to follow practices consistent with this policy and ensuring that contractors do so. y Reporting safety risks and performance publicly and providing assurance to the De Beers PLC Board of Directors through the Sustainability Committee. OBJECTIVE The objective of this policy is to provide requirements for the leadership, management, application and administration of the Safety Policy within The De Beers Group of Companies (De Beers).
