    MeaningPrime Mover: Engine, motor, other appliance which providesor generates power

    Transmission Machinery: A shaft, wheel, drum pulled

    appliance or device by which the motion is performedManufacturing Process: means any process forMaking, altering, repairing, washing, ornamenting, finishing,

    packing, oiling, cleaning, breaking up demolishing orotherwise treating or adapting any article or substancewith a view to its use, sale, transport, delivery or disposalor

    Pumping oil, water, sewage, or any other substance orgenerating, transforming or transmitting power or

    Composing types of printing or other similar process orconstructing, reconstructing, repairing, refitting, finishingor breaking up ships or vessel or preserving or storing anyarticle in cold storage

    Sub section (1) of section 22: Fencing of machinery State Govt. may by rule prescribe furthercautious precaution as it may consider necessary.

    In every factory, the machinery which are dangerousshall be securely fenced by safeguards of substantialconstruction which be constantly maintained whilethe machinery is in motion or in use.Work on or near Machinery in motion: While in

    any factory it becomes necessary to examine themachinery, for which as referred to sec 21, whilemachinery is in motion, such examination can becarried out only by specially trained adult male

    worker wearing tight fitting clothing whose name isrecorded in the register prescribed, who is furnishedwith a (C) certificate of his appointment .No woman or young person( below age of 15) shallbe allowed to clean, lubricate or adjust any part of prime mover in the machinery

    Employment of young persons (either achild or adolescent) on dangerous machines:No young person is allowed to work on

    dangerous machines, unless he has beenfully instructed as to the dangers arisingin connection with the machine and theprecautions to be observed and hasreceived sufficient training in work at themachine or undergone adequatesupervision by a person who has

    thorough knowledge and experience of the machine.Sub sec (1) shall apply to machines as may

    be prescribed by state govt.

    Striking gear and devices for cutting off power:

    In every factory suitable striking gear or other

    efficient mechanical appliance shall be providedand maintained and used to move driving belts toand from fast and loose pulleys which form part of the transmission machinery.

    Likewise devices for cutting off power inemergencies from running machinery shall beprovided and maintained in every workroom Self acting Machines: No traversing part of self

    acting machine in any factory and no materialcarried out there on shall, in the space over aperson is liable to pass.

    Prohibition of employment of women andchildren near cotton openers:

    No woman or child shall be employed in any

    part of a factory for pressing cotton in which acotton opener is at work. Provided if theinspector may in any particular case specify inwriting, woman and children may be employed

    on the side of the partition where the feed endin situation. Excessive Weights: No person shall beemployed in any factory to lift carry or moveany load so heavy as to be likely to cause himinjury. S.G. may prescribe rules the maxiweight which may be lifted carried or movedby adult men/woman, adolescents and childrenemployed in factories.

    Safety of buildings and machinery: If the building ormachinery is found in dangerous condition by theInspector then he may serve on ( the occupier ormanager or both) of the factory an order by writingeither to repair them or else he may order to prohibit touse until it has been properly replaced as it may causedanger to human life.

    Safety offices : Sec 40B. In every factory where in 1000 ormore workers are ordinarily employed or in the opinion of thestate govt. any manufacturing process or operation is carriedon which process or operation involves any risk of bodilyinjury, poisoning or disease or any other hazard to health tothe persons employed in the factory the occupier shall, if sorequired by the S.G. by notification in the official gazetteemploy such number of SAFETY OFFICERS as may be specifiedin that notification. The duties and qualification and conditionsof service of safety offices shall such as may be prescribed bythe S.G.

    Compulsory disclosure of informationby the occupier:

    The occupier if involving hazardous processin a factory shall disclose in the mannerprescribed all information regardingdangers, including health hazards andmeasures to over come such hazardsarising from the exposure to or storageand other process to the workers

    employed in factory.
