Community and Mental Health Services Safety Information Leaflet Potassium Permanganate tablets (Permitabs ® ) for the Preparation of Solution for External Use Permitabs are used to prepare a solution which will be used by the nurse to treat certain skin conditions. The following safety information should be followed Permitabs is harmful if swallowed Do not eat, drink or smoke when using this product Do not touch or use Permitabs if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to potassium permanganate Do not get Permitabs near or in your eyes and avoid contact with mucous membranes (inside of mouth, nose, ear, genitals, anus) as they may cause irritation As Permitabs (potassium permanganate) is a dye, do not allow the tablets or solution made from the tablets to come into contact with clothing, fabrics, etc. as it will stain Keep out of the sight and reach of children Keep Permitabs away from combustible materials Store Permitabs in a cool, dry and well ventilated place. Protect from light. Any left-over Permitabs should not be disposed of via household waste. Ask your pharmacist on how to dispose of any Permitabs no longer required. This will help protect the environment. What to do if Permitabs are accidentally swallowed? If anyone accidentally swallows Permitabs tablets or solution wash out the mouth thoroughly with water and give plenty of water to drink. Do not induce vomiting. Contact your nearest accident and emergency department immediately. What to do if you get Permitabs in your eyes? Wash your eyes straight away with plenty of water for up to 15 minutes. Remove any contact lenses and open your eyes widely. Contact your nearest accident and emergency department immediately. March 2019
