General Safety Rules Keep your work area clean and

aisles clear. Do not engage in “practical jokes”

in the classroom. No food, drink or gum in

classroom. No “horse playing” in the lab. Develop an attitude of safety.

Electrical Cords Be careful when connecting cables to

computer system. Make sure power is turned off and computer

is unplugged. Never repair computer while it is on. Secure power cords from traffic.

Save Your Work When working on a document,

update changes by saving every 5 minutes.

Remove/insert external storage devices (CD/DVD, USB jump drives) when light is OFF or prompted to remove.

Keep It Clean Use equipment covers to

protect hardware from dust. Maintain appropriate room

temperature and humidity levels.

Be Safe Turn off the computer during electrical

storms. Never bang the mouse or on the keys;

always use a light touch with these input devices.
