Our Legacy Health and Wellness Clinic staff was on site to administer the flu vaccine during the month of October. They made calls to the following locations: Main Office, Equipment Division, Asphalt Plant, and Walker Office and Plant. As a result of this effort, a total of 44 employees received flu shots on-site. Flu season is just around the corner. Flu shots are a great way to protect yourself, your coworkers, and your family from getting sick from the flu. GCC employees are encouraged to get the flu vac-cine. Employees who were unable to make the sched-uled on-site times may visit our clinic for a flu shot; GCC will pick up the cost.

Focus on Education

Simulator Gives CTC Students Peek Into Construction

Gilchrist Construction and Diamond B in cooperation with the Orchard Foundation are sponsoring our CTC (Construction Technology Course) at six Central Louisiana high schools for the 2014-2015 school year. Successful completion of the course earns students an industry-based certification. In August, Grant High School CTC students operated heavy machinery during class, all from the comfort—and safety– of a seat in front of a TV screen. Thanks to Louisiana CAT (Caterpillar) for bringing their simulator which allowed the kids to operate the newest technology motor grader, which fea-tures two joysticks, a gas pedal, and no steering wheel.

Construction Technology Course — SME at Buckeye Hig h

CTC students at Buckeye High School were educated on careers in construction and the art of surveying. A huge thank you to Mickey Gauthier for taking the time to educate our students. Excellent feedback was received from the students as well as the instruc-tor, Chris Glascock. “Your level of professionalism is impressive and the passion for you work is obvious!” Also, thanks to Mark Dubea for scheduling this and helping with the logistics.
