Tooling specifics
• Hammers with steel or composite shafts
• Sockets and extensions shall be pin locked
Lanyards and attachment points
• All tools at height shall have lanyards attached to a tool bag
• Wrist lanyard use discouraged
• All lanyards with Screwgate carabiners
• Lanyard attachment points should be made so cannot be removed from tool

Heavy tools and equipment (≥ 5kg)
• Must be secure from falling during transport and use
• Secure device must be calculated and free fall tests conducted
• Securing points above the work site
Power tools
• Cables and air hoses must be secured in order not to place strain on them
• Sockets shall be pined• Lanyard shall have load
appropriate to weight of tool

Tools for working on electrical installations
• Isolation of the lanyard attachment required from the tool itself
Tool storage
• Must be kept in secure storage facility
• One person identified as responsible for the tools
• Inventories and log books required for control
• Stored so easy identification if any missing
• Must include lanyards, bags with internal fixing devices

Tool bags, pouches and Belts
• Tools must be taken aloft in a bag, and bag must have internal tool attachment points
• Bag must allow both hands free
• Belts with snap fasteners not recommended
Inspection and testing
• All tools drop tested with 50% safety factor
• Lanyards batch tested and certified
• Guidance given for inspecting tools before use
