Winter Edition 2019

West Glamorgan

High Sheriff’s Awards 2019

The High Sheriff of West Glamorgan Mr. Henry Gilbert has now opened the 2019 High Sheriff Awards for nominations.

These awards are a worthwhile way of recognising the unsung heroes in our community. Please note that nominees must be working voluntary in the community for an extended period of time either with young people or be a young person themselves.

Many young people devote significant amounts of time to volunteering and their circumstances can often be difficult because of caring responsibilities or the ef-fects of unemployment on family life. A High Sheriff award which recognises the impact of their volunteering can give young people confidence in their abilities and inspire the next generation

The contribution of adults who support young people is also recognised through the awards which can be given to individuals or groups.

I would be very grateful if you could assist in promoting the awards extensively in Neath Port Talbot and Swansea and forward this newsletter on to anyone who may be interested in submitting a nomination.

The Award ceremony will be held at 10.30am on Saturday 30th March 2019 at Sketty Hall in Swansea.

For further information and for an on line form please go to the High Sheriffs website www.highsheriffwestglam.org.uk alternatively contact Sian Morris on 01639 889161

Safer Neath Port Talbot Business Crime Reduc*on Partnership

Our objecve is to use an intelligence led approach to manage business crime. In liaison

with retailers, businesses and authories including South Wales Police, we seek to idenfy

and deter the most persistent offenders across the region, and reduce their opportunity to

commit crime within your trading area, which impacts on your business profitability.

The Storenet or Nitenet radio is an easy to use 2 way communicaons system which

enables the rapid disseminaon of informaon on criminal acvity throughout your trading

area, all your staff can be made fully aware of offender movements, descripons and

direcon immediately.

In the event of a staff member being a3acked the system has a built in panic bu3on which,

when acvated, alerts other users as to who is in difficulty. The microphone is then

automacally acvated allowing the user to have a ‘hands free’ facility allowing them to

fully deal with the situaon.

The Business Crime Reducon Partnership works by collang intelligence, informaon,

sighngs and deters from member businesses, other BCRP’s and police, analysing the

details and providing informaon and photographs back to members. Prolific, travelling,

professional offenders are idenfied and then targeted.

As member of the BCRP you will have access to a state of the art password protected

website which provides accurate intelligence and up to date images of all offenders subject

of a current exclusion hosted by Li3oralis Disc.

video door bells and phone apps.

3. Remember to ulise burglar alarms both day and night.

Christmas has been and we have stocked our homes with the latest electronic gadgets, computers, jewelry and must-have accessories which unfortunately has provided the criminals with the perfect incentive to commit burglaries.

Be careful not to advertise your home to burglars on social media. Social media is a commonly used tool for scouting potential targets. Social media savvy families have a tendency to publish their whereabouts which lets burglars know when their house is going to be empty. Uploaded photos of pricey Christmas gifts can also be a problem as it basically allows burglars to go shopping just by viewing a Facebook profile so consider property marking you new purchases, any property that is properly marked is ‘traceable’ something a thief does not like and makes them less attractable as they know the item can be identified and traced back to the owner.

Ultra-violet marking pens – invisible and semi permanent

An ultra-violet (UV) pen puts an invisible mark on your property, which can only be seen under UV light. Write your postcode followed by the house number or house name on property which is invisible to the naked eye. UV ink can fade over a period of 12 months if exposed to strong sunlight or heat. Marking should be reapplied on a regular basis.

Property Marking Solutions - invisible and permanent These solutions contain unique elements of either: DNA, UV or Micro dot. Once you have put this clear solution on your property it can only be visible under UV light. When you’ve marked your property and registered your contact details on the company’s database the property becomes traceable and identifiable to only you.

Engraving techniques – permanent and visible

Engraving - Property can be engraved by using scribing pens, ceramic marking pens or electric hand engravers.

Etching - This is a method that applies a unique reference to your property using a chemical solution and stencil. Labels – semi permanent and visible

Labels can be applied as a visible deterrent to property. They can be tamper resistant or glued on with specialist adhesive that is difficult to remove. Some products leave a UV trace if removed.

Register your gifts on Immobilise.com Most consumer electrical goods have a unique identification code such as a serial num-ber or for mobile phones an IMEI number - the IMEI number can be found quickly and easily by pressing the following keys on your mobile handset: * # 06 #.
