DYNAMIS INTRODUCTIONDynamis is an accredited provider of restraint-minimisation and restraint-intervention training which is based on modern evidence about the nature of aggression and violent behaviour. We use our  specialist experience  and qualifications to help your staff to manage the stress-related behaviours of vulnerable people in care.

Since 2007, we have been providing our training courses to Mainstream Care Homes for Older People and Care Homes for People with Mental Health or Learning Disabilities.   We have specialist experience of working with staff teams in Care Homes with special units for Older People with Severe Dementia,   Specialist Units (sexual disinhibition, alcohol-related disorders, mental health) and Brain Injury and Disabilities Rehabilitation Units.

Our focus is on providing your school with pragmatic solutions to complex challenges. With reference to evidence-based sources. legal standards or national level guidance, we do our very best to help your staff to balance the complex issues involved so that you can provide a safe and secure care environment.

We are always inspired when the attitudes and methodology we deliver in our sessions allow your staff to bring more clarity to the issues regarding duty-of-care and conflict faced in their work.

Our aim is that the training we provide is accessible and effective for your institution and for your team – and that we consistently exceed staff and management expectations in delivering your desired outcomes.

Importantly, we constantly review and update the legal underpinnings of our course content and delivery to ensure that you are protected in the most robust and appropriate way possible. Dynamis SAFE CARING 1-DAY COURSE1 Day Training Course for Lower-Risk contextsThis course is designed to give care staff a foundational knowledge of the rights, risks, and limitations they must be aware of when considering the use of restraints in their care environment.  Taking into account an understanding that vulnerable people in care must always be protected from harm, while offering them as much choice and autonomy as possible, this course outlines the key points of law, duty of care and national guidance which helps staff to make good decisions in difficult circumstances.

We adjust the content of this training day depending on the needs of the staff we are delivering it to, for example in settings where the needs of clients or the triggers for conflict are particularly complex, our instructors will select and focus on positive handling strategies which are appropriate for your client group.

Dynamis Lone Worker / Personal Safety 1-DAY COURSE

1 Day Training Course for Community-Based Lone WorkersOur team developed this 1-day course in response to a number of clients - including NHS Trusts, Local Authority Health & Social Care Departments and Housing Organisations - who needed a training course which comprehensively addressed the needs of Personal Safety for Lone Workers.

Attendees come from the Home Care, Occupational Therapy, Social Work, Criminal Justice, Crisis Care, Residential Care and other sections.

The training focusses on raising the awareness of staff and helping them to improve their personal safety practices.  It also enables them to confront many issues about personal safety which require thoughtful reflection, action and mature discussions about safety with managers and supervisors.

Learning OutcomesYour staff will be able to:

✔ National-level guidance in the sector (from the NHS, the HSE and other bodies) for the safe management of lone workers.

✔ Understand and use a stress-based model of aggression and dealing with challenging behaviours.

✔ Practical ways - including modern, researched techniques - for enhancing personal safety in confined spaces using subtle body language and barrier signals.

✔ Health and Safety provisions for managing safety in the workplace (Duty of Care) to Detect and Avoid dangerous occurrences.

✔ Legal rules on the use of force in self-defence, only when absolutely necessary.

“The risks as a lone worker have increased as beds are closed, clients have to now be treated in the community when they would have been deemed in need of admission before. They therefore present more risks to lone workers. The number of clients has also increased and the staffing levels available now cannot support working in pairs to visit all clients. I do feel that the risks to staff have not been adequately assessed and will continue to increase until a dangerous situation arises which would have legal implications for my employer.”

DYNAMIS CUSTOMISED COURSESWe are often asked by clients to develop specific customised courses to deal with the exact nature of the problems they face in their work.

Our trainers have wide experience in designing and developing customised conflict management, physical intervention and personal safety courses for a variety of clients in a range of sectors.

Examples of discrete projects which are well-inside the scope of our knowledge and expertise are as follows:

1) Brain Injury Unit: Person-Centred Physical Intervention Assessment and Skills Design

2) A&E Emergency Department: Cross-Cultural Conflict Triggers Analysis and Report

3) Hospital Psychiatric Unit: Audit and Analysis of the Need for Restraint Devices for Increased Safety

4) Care Home Dementia Unit: Staff training Needs analysis and top-up training programme

5) Hospital Surgical Theatre: Vulnerable Person Care and Control in Surgical Theatre Environment Workshops

Utilising our unique behavioural approach and solid legislative understanding, we design and develop training programmes which are relevant, appropriate and effective:

‣ a universal three-tier model of Avoiding, Defusing and Protecting against aggression and violence.

‣ a behavioural 'human factors' approach to understanding confrontation psychology and physiology in order to develop reliable risk-controls, skills and tactics.

‣ evidencing our recommendations wherever possible by documenting our research and advice with established scientific or legal principles.

DYNAMIS FEEDBACK

“I have never done a course that equalled this level – I thought the training was broken down into very easy to learn steps and the movements could be made to work in very fluid scenarios.  Absolutely fabulous – already recommended to other colleagues”

Brain Injury Unit Charge Nurse, The Disabilities Trust

“I felt that Gerard was an excellent teacher and trainer. Clearly an expert in his own field, he explained everything very well. Everything he taught was backed up with legislation – supporting evidence-based learning throughout the entire

COURSE HOSTING REQUIREMENTS‣ Training Area:Typical physical skills training will require an area large enough for the training group to move around in safely!  It should have all obstructions and floor furniture removed so  that we don't bump into things - slips trips and falls account for the large proportion of injuries in the workplace.  An area 6m x 9m (the dimensions of a squash court) is typically suitable for a group of up to 12 staff if it is completely clear of any hazards.

‣ TimingWe normally suggest a start time of 0930, finishing at approximately 1600 on each day.   Let us know if you need us to start or finish early.

‣ Display EquipmentWe request that you please provide a  digital projector or flatscreen TV to assist  your trainer to provide our customised presentations to your team.  If necessary we can bring a projector - just let us know!

‣ Note-Taking and AssessmentAll staff are *strongly* recommended to bring note-taking materials - a notebook and pen - in order to take the full benefit of this course.  All staff may be required to complete a student learning log during the course to facilitate assessment.

‣ Medical:  All delegates will be required to complete a medical questionnaire prior to commencing the course. All injuries, past and present, must be disclosed, including any medication currently prescribed and / or being taken.

‣ Clothing:Delegates are asked to ensure that they  bring and wear adequate training kit for the  duration of the course including; long tracksuit bottoms, appropriate training shoes, etc.  Examples of inappropriate clothing would include: any form of open-toed shoes / sandals, footwear with heels, skirts / dresses, shorts, low-cut tops, etc.

Failure to attend training sessions in safe  and appropriate clothing or footwear could  result in being excluded from the training, due to risk.

‣ Jewellery: For personal safety reasons ALL jewellery  must be removed prior to any training  commencing. Where an item of jewellery cannot be removed (i.e. wedding rings) it may be required to be covered, dependent on its construction and style.

‣ Timekeeping:Our courses tend to be under time pressure. Therefore, delegates are asked to ensure that they are on time for each session so that others are not waiting unnecessarily and that the course finishing time can be adhered to.

‣ Cancellation:We are always disappointed for our clients when they need to cancel for reasons outwith their control.   However it can have serious effects on our business, too!  We think the fairest response for everyone is to invoice you for 50% of the training you originally booked, plus any travel expenses we had already incurred.    This applies to courses cancelled within 4 weeks of the start date.  Before then, we will just reschedule!
