WELCOMEThank you for coming to the Greater Bay Area Fundraiser. This is the only two-chapter fundraiser in the country and it benefits the conservation, humanitarian, and education programs for both the Golden Gate Chapter and the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter. This is the 17th annual joint fundraising event of our two chapters.

Both Chapters have supported a number of youth, humanitarian, and education activities again this year.

For Golden Gate, youth support included the Clays for Kids event at Bird’s Landing, a Boy Scout shooting sports weekend, the Livermore-Pleasanton Rod & Gun Club youth program, and support for three Bay Area high school trap teams. [It is hard to believe, but we do have three high school trap teams!] San Francisco Bay Area supported quarterly shooting training and practice at local gun clubs, trap training at Coyote Valley Sporting Clays, and pheasant hunts at Hastings Island. The chapter also supports the annual Ducks Unlimited Youth Outdoor Day and Wilderness Unlimited Foundations youth program. Youth are certainly our future and represents a major focus for both chapters. Further evidence of that is our great youth raffle this evening.

Humanitarian support includes a wide variety of projects with a strong focus on veterans. San Francisco Bay Area provides funding and assistance for two special Wounded Warrior hunts annually. In addition, both Chapters provide support including funding and assistance for the local Purple Heart Outdoor Tour. This program provides hunting and fishing opportunities for deserving wounded special forces warriors. It is mind boggling to see what these guys have been through to protect our freedom. Our support helps fund a blacktail deer hunt in ranches around Livermore. Stop by to talk with Glenn Chrisman and the three veterans that he is hosting tonight. Both Chapters also have Feed the Hungry programs and support local charities such as the Salvation Army.

Our education support has funded the training of teachers at the American Wilderness Leadership School. Each chapter sends multiple teachers or other educators to this unique camp in Wyoming. The teachers learn how hunters support wildlife conservation as well as teaching them archery, rifle, and shotgun shooting, wildlife and plant education, and they even have a little fun river rafting. The San Francisco Bay Area Sables have special auction items in the Live Auction just to help fund additional teachers and students to attend this unique camp. If you know of anyone interested, please see Diane Sheardown at the Sables booth. Golden Gate has also supported University of California, Berkeley research on big game in California for decades. This has allowed us to influence the minds of many UC students that have never hunted in their lives.

San Francisco Bay Area provides funding for the California DFW Game Wardens Association, and has contributed to the Salmon Acclimation Pen Program among other conservation programs.

All in all, you can be proud of the work that both chapters are doing. YOU are the biggest reason this work can be done.

Remember this Fundraiser is not just a place to find cheap hunts. Please look at buying full-price hunts at the Fundraiser as a way to go on great outings while funding great programs.

Transfers must be completed within 90 days or the firearm ownership will revert to the Greater Bay Area Fundraiser committee. Should the winner or buyer be unable to complete the transaction for any reason, the winner or buyer shall forfeit the winnings or purchase without any compensation from the Fundraiser.

Dwindling wilderness areas, hectic school and after-school activity schedules, economic hardships, computer games and the internet – all contribute to today’s

child becoming “an indoors kid” with little to no knowledge of the world outside four walls and electricity.

Teaching children to hunt helps develop positive life skills. From discipline, to patience, to endurance, to learning to deal with disappointment, hunting helps develop skills that will turn a child into a well-rounded adult.

SCI’s Buck Buchanan provides a quarterly shooting day, hunter safety courses, and pheasant shoots for youth — all funded by the SCI SFBA chapter. Get involved today — contact Buck ([email protected]) to see about the next youth activity, give him a referral to a youth you know, or offer to help with the youth program.

The Lifetime Fishing License entitles the angler to a sport fishing license each year for the remainder of his or her life. The Lifetime Hunting License entitles the hunter to a hunting license each year for the remainder of his or her life. This is a Limited Edition, Artist Signed giclee by renowned artist Clint Eagar. “Mountain Ram” has been chosen as the SCI 2020 Artist of the Year piece, and this beautiful and inspiring piece is only available through Safari Club.

In Clint Eagar’s words: “I was awestruck by how beautifully this bighorn ram was captured in this magnificent shot. This ram is a new world record and scored at 216 3/8. The image was taken by photographer David Irwin just over a year before this large male died of natural causes. It was a long and rigorous trip where the photographer almost lost his life on the journey.”

“This bighorn ram was challenging to do, due to its depth of field and perspective of the shot taken over a mound. Wilderness Unlimited is the western United States’ largest private waters manager. WU provides its members quality private access to numerous rivers, creeks, lakes and ponds in California and Oregon. Opportunities exist for nearly all fresh water species and some salt water ones, as well.

Serbia has very dense populations of roe deer, with very good trophy quality. You can expect to see numerous roe deer during this hunt. The best time to schedule is in April and May, when the vegetation is low, and during the first half of August, in the breeding season.

The donation includes hunting organization, transfer to/from Belgrade airport, all meals and lodging, reserve entry fees, hunting licenses, services of a professional guide, all ground transport during the hunt, first treatment and measurement (CIC or grams) of the trophies.

Does not include trophy fees, dipping, packing and export documentation ($500), and government tax ($ 1.155). The trophy fee for the first best available roe deer is $ 1,900 + tax. There are exceptional red stags to be hunted at Mungunui Lodge! This donation includes 1 management red stag up to 273 SCI,

and 1 management fallow buck. The two animals are to be divided between 2 hunters. The average management red stag is 230 SCI. Larger (greater than 273 SCI) red stag are available at cost. Additional game may be added at current published rates including rusa, sambar, sika, Arapawa ram, and feral goat among others.

The hunt can be taken any time March to June but the red stag ‘roar’ or rut is in April, which is also a great time to visit New Zealand in the fall! Hunting is mostly by foot — walk out the door and you’ll be hunting! Hunting areas are varied, consisting of several streams, heavily wooded gully’s with open glens surrounded by picturesque and pure New Zealand scenery. The big ones are hiding in the outback of the property and you’ll hunt for them but it’s a great experience to see the “bowl” of wild game as you are eating breakfast or having an evening drink!

Hunters are guaranteed to see a dozen or more stags from 280sci to 500 SCI during the hunt, so the opportunity to harvest a quality red stag is in the hunters hands. On average stags this season scored 370 SCI.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has donated this OPEN ZONE Deer Tag for use in the 2020 deer hunting season. This special tag allows you to hunt during the authorized season dates of any hunt, using the specific method and meeting any special conditions of the tag for that hunt.

Any resident or nonresident age 12 as of July 1 of the current license year, may apply.

You do not need to be present to bid on the Open Zone deer tag and you do not need to be a California resident to purchase this tag. All tag and license fees are included in the sales price. This tag may be used only by the purchaser or a licensed hunter whom the purchaser designates.

Proceeds from this auction item are used for conservation programs by the San Francisco Bay Area and Golden Gate Chapters of SCI (5%) and by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife for use in their conservation programs (95%).
