What is Yoga? Yoga is an ancient practice originally

reserved for the “Rishis” or saints in the Himalayas and was secretly passed from guru to disciple. Although some parts still remain secretive, yoga has become a common practice in many parts of the world. Yoga is a powerful method of self-improvement that works on three levels (body, mind, spirit). Yoga utilizes mental focus and deep breathing while performing a series of postures. The practice can sometimes appear to be a “workout” but what makes it so much richer is the remarkable internal impact of the practice. “Yoga” translates from its ancient language, Sanskrit to mean “Union”. In simple terms, it is a connection between conscious breath and body movement.

Attire/preparation

• Wear comfortable clothing that doesn’t

restrict movement.

• Avoid jewelry and accessories. • Avoid heavy scents or perfumes • Arrive on time mentally and physically • Unravel your mat quietly • Entering late is disruptive, but if you

must be late, please take a deep breath, enter and be seated as quietly as possible. Wait to unravel your mat and gather props if the class is in meditation.
