HAPPY TRAILS TO YOU...

Howdy Pardners!

CAMPER CREDO... Counselor Brian Kats, along with campers and counselors in B6-3, the Trappers, carefully constructed their Code of Living. This document contains the “words they live by” on and off The Ranch. It consists of a set of values and guidelines that will be upheld throughout the summer.

Saddling Up For a Super Summer!

A lot has happened on and off The Ranch since the “burn down” of 2012, and we are excited to “lasso” in our 31st summer! New and special events, new facilities, and new programs awaited your arrival. Thursday, we kicked off our first day -- campers were greeted in the bus yard as they stepped off their buses with a “Howdy Pardner” or a high-five and they then went to their respective meeting place for their daily morning “Pow-Wow.” Each division began their day with their own traditions and rituals that are unique to them.

During these first two days on The Ranch, campers spent time carefully drafting, creating, and finalizing their Code of Living -- statements that represent values that are important to them to focus on how they will respect each other throughout the summer. Concepts such as fairness, respect, tolerance, and patience were just a few mentioned in these documents that define how they decide to live together as a group.

Up at the Swimmin’ Holes, many campers were ready to earn their “red bracelet” during one of their daily scheduled swims by taking on the “Swim Challenge,” giving them the ability to swim in the deep end. Some campers obtained their bracelets and others have set goals to reach success, in keeping with our philosophy of “Challenge by Choice.” The youngest campers, the Pioneers, got their faces wet and played water games as they got acquainted with the pool. Campers learned about proper pool protocol and safety as they got comfortable getting wet.

In addition to rekindling old friendships and creating new ones, we are kicking off a summer to “Be the Difference.” It is the heartbeat of our community: the difference we can make in our own life and in the lives of others. So…get ready… hop in the saddle…and take hold of your reins: there’s a lot in store for the Summer of 2013!

Great American COuntry FairWednesday, JUly 3rd

We will celebrate America’s birthday here on The Ranch, so leave your Cole-manwear at home and dress in your best Red, White, and Blue. Our day would not be complete without featuring potato sack races, a bucket brigade, a BBQ, and so much more. As always, a day of great fun and great food— what more

could one ask for!!

PLUSH PLAYGROUND PLATEAU... Campers in P5-5 are enjoying the new “carpet;” it’s actually turf beneath their feet as they climb, play, and explore on the equip-ment in this popular “stop” on their schedule.

Red, White, and Blue Day - Wednesday, July 3 Help celebrate our country’s birthday when our Great American Country Fair comes to Coleman Country. The Ranch is transformed into a sea of red, white, and blue to show our spirit for the U.S.A., and that includes each and every camper!

Disney or Superhero Dress-Up Day Thursday, July 11Campers and Pardners will get a chance to channel their favorite Disney character or superhero for the day. Capes, wigs, faux muscles, and tutus are just some of the adornments that will be seen around The Ranch! So get out your fairy dust and hold on to your super pow-ers: it will be a magical day!

Frivolous Friday Friday, July 19 Bring your sillies to camp! Dress as silly as your imag-ination allows: big hair, colorful wear, and mismatched socks are just some of the kooky outfits that will roam The Ranch on this day.

Around the World in 80 Degrees Tuesday, August 6 Where in the world will we be? Spain, Ireland, Mexico, Brazil, or China may be your fancy. Country flags, team shirts, or your country’s colors may be your choice of wear for this day, where you dress up to represent your favorite country.

“Be The Difference,” this summer’s theme, encompasses so much of

the drumbeat of our community. It highlights one’s individuality and

the committment to show how one person can make a change or a

difference in someone else’s life, their community, and in their own life.

GOAL!…GOAL!...GOAL!...GOAL!... The FIFA World Player of the Year, Abby Wambach, will visit us on The Ranch on July 22nd. Besides being a Superstar athlete, Abby set soccer’s international scoring record, scoring four goals in the first half of a 5-0 victory over South Ko-rea last week to surpass Mia Hamm’s mark. She is also a two-time Olympic Gold Medalist. We can’t wait for Abby to join us on The Ranch, where she will share her values of hard work and setting attainable goals. Campers are sure to be up for Abby’s challenge as they try to “put one in the net” past her!

BRANDISHING A NEW BOOT HILL… Scouts Kayla and Isabella in G1-2, the Alabamas, went “interactive” as they played on one of over 25 new Xbox 360 systems installed in the new computer lab. Campers were over-whelmed with joy as they entered into this incredible interactive game center in which they can choose from a variety of games to play.
