    Course OutlineInformation System Analysis and Design

    (CSE-373)

    Course Description:

    This course provides the student with a practicalapproach to systems analysis and design using a blend of traditional developments and current technologies. Thestudent will learn how to apply the Six phases of thesystems development life cycle.

    1A. SPECIFIC COURSE OBJECTIVES:

    To introduce the student to different approaches to Informationsystems analysis and design.

    To define and explain types of system, Business environment,Computer Based Information System(CBIS) I

    To define and describe the six phases of the systemsdevelopment life cycle (SDLC).

    To describe in detail the systems planning, systems analysis,systems design, systems implementation, and systems operation andsupport phases of the SDLC.

    To implement the five phases of the SDLC in solving a real worldinformation technology problem.

    To provide the student with a system analysis toolkit which can helpin developing the five stages of the SDLC.

    To provide the students with a background into how IT supports abusiness environment.To provide the students with background intothe role of a systems analyst and how they interact with users,managers and other IT staff.

    Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

    Describe different approaches to systems analysis and design

    Define and describe the five phases of the systems developmentlife cycle.

    Be able to apply the five phases of the SDLC to a real world ITproblem

    Describe the systems planning, systems analysis, systemsdesign, systems implementation, and systems operation andsupport phases of the SDLC

    Describe how IT supports a business environment.

    2. RELATIONSHIP TO OTHER COURSES.This course is part of the core CSE courses for the B.Sc in

    Computer Science and Engineering. This course is relation withDatabase management system, Software Engineering, ManagementInformation System. This course is foundational in that it providesstudents with the systems analysis tools that are used in IT problemsolving .

    Each student will be required to do a solo project and a team project utilizing the 5 stages of the SDLC. The projects will deal with real-world IT problems. The students will also focus onpresenting information using current technology.

    Combination of lecture and projects.

    7. METHOD OF EVALUATION

    Combination of Class test , Home work and Final Examinations.
