SACRED HEART WADSWORTH, OH
#YOUR MERCY: The 2018 Catholic Charities Annual Appeal will take place next weekend in our parish. Please refer to the insert in this week’s bulletin which includes our parish’s goal and an overview of the importance of Catholic Charities in our communities. This year’s appeal theme is Your Mercy: Transforming Lives and Communities. Your generous support will transform the lives of others, to offer dignity, possibilities, and companionship to those who are most vulnerable.
As in the past, an in-pew commitment process will take place next weekend, February 10-11. All who have not received the mailing from Bishop Perez, or have not had a chance to respond to it, will be asked to consider making a generous pledge to support the ministries and services provided by Catholic Charities. If you have received the mailing, please respond generously to it and we ask you to also compete the in-pew envelope and indicate by checking the box that you have responded by mail. We invite you to view the stories of inspiration and more information at www.catholiccommunity.org/2018Appeal. Please make every effort in being generous with your Catholic Charities donation. This is a very important work of our local church as we try to help those in need. Sacred Heart Parish has always been very generous in the Catholic Charities Annual Appeal. I cannot remember when we did not meet or exceed the goal for our parish. This is a great testament to the generosity and spirit of sacrifice in our parish community. I pray that this generosity will continue to grow stronger and stronger. Thank you for your kindness and generosity and may God bless you and your loved ones. MAKE YOUR PLANS: Saturday, February 10, 2018 will be our annual World Marriage Day celebration in McMahon Hall. The dinner will follow the 5:00 PM Mass and the blessing for married couples. This is a time for all of us to pray for those couples living within the Sacrament of Marriage and to thank God for the gift of this sacrament on which we build our families and the Church itself. We are planning a very entertaining evening with a lot of laughs. So mark the day on your calendar and plan to be there. More information about tickets is in today’s bulletin. Passion & Purpose of Marriage. There was an insert in the bulletin a few weeks ago concerning a special event presented by Dynamic Catholic. This is a great opportunity for married couples of all ages to learn more about the Sacrament of Marriage and your relationship with your spouse and with God. The event will be held on Saturday, March 3 at St. Sebastian Parish in Akron from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM. Tickets are $25.00 per person. You can obtain tickets online at DynamicCatholic.com. Learn the real passion and purpose of marriage. Save the date: Saturday, February 17, will be our next Iron Chef Competition to raise funds for our St. Vincent de Paul Society. This is a great event to help raise funds to care for those in need. This is a really great event in our parish with around three hundred people in attendance. It is an evening filled with good food, great fellowship, and a truly good cause; helping the poor and those not as fortunate. Our St. Vincent de Paul Society has done a great job in making this event more and more successful each year, but what truly makes it so successful is the goodness and generosity of so many wonderful members of our parish community. The tremendous support that the St. Vincent de Paul Society receives from our parish community on every level surely indicates that our parish community is very much committed to helping the poor and needy in our community. The continued success of our IRON CHEF COMPETITION is another way that the generosity of Sacred Heart Parish shines. The St. Vincent de Paul Society does such a great job of caring for those in need and they receive a great deal of support from the members of our parish family. May God bless our St. Vincent de Paul Society and our parish community for all the work they do on behalf of those in need. Mark your calendars for our Lenten Mission. This Lenten Mission promises to be a very thought provoking experience in which we can encounter Jesus in ourselves and in one another. Come with an open heart and an expectant faith to experience God’s Healing Love. Fr. Greg Bramlage of Missionaries of the New Evangelization from Colorado Springs will lead the Parish Program and will open us up to a deeper understanding of God’s magnificent love and to His desire to heal us in every way. February 26, 27, 28, 2018 Each night begins at 7:00 pm with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. Healing and forgiveness: Monday: "Forgiveness Opens Us To God's Blessings" Tuesday: "The Holy Spirit Brings Us Into Divine Intimacy" Wednesday: "The Word of God Empowers Us” This Parish Mission is adult-oriented and suitable for teens through adult.

Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time Immediately upon leaving the synagogue, he entered the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John. Simon’s mother-in-law lay ill with a fever, and the first thing they did was to tell him about her. He went over to her and grasped her hand and helped her up, and the fever left her. She immediately began to wait on them. After sunset, as evening drew on, they brought him all who were ill, and those possessed by demons. Before long the whole town was gathered outside the door. Those whom he cured, who were variously afflicted, were many, and so were the demons he expelled. But he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him. Rising early the next morning, he went off to a lonely place in the desert; there he was absorbed in prayer. Simon and his companions managed to track him down, and when they found him, they told him, “Everybody is looking for you!” He said to them: “Let us move on to the neighboring villages so that I may proclaim the good news there also. That is what I have come to do.” So he went into their synagogues preaching the good news and expelling demons throughout the whole of Galilee.
