Sacred Heart School Newsletter April 17th, 2019 Page 1 Dear Sacred Heart Families, Happy Holy Week! I know many of you are traveling for Easter break, but if you are in town, I highly encourage you to attend the variety of services our parish offers leading up to Easter. Here is a quick list of the services: Holy Thursday - Mass of the Lord’s Supper 7pm at St. Philip Church Good Friday - Stations of the Cross 12 noon, Passion of the Lord 3pm - both at Sacred Heart Church Holy Saturday - Easter Vigil 8pm at Sacred Heart Church WOW! Thank you to everyone who attended Studio Nite Lites on Saturday evening. The night was a huge success and that was due to all those who attended or supported in any way. A HUGE thank you to all the sixth grade families who put in huge amounts of time to make sure the night ran smoothly, as well as all volunteers outside of the sixth grade class. People are truly what make Sacred Heart School such a special place! Last week our youngest learners celebrated Week of the Young Child. In addition to visiting the story bus on Tuesday, preschool through second grade students participated in making music on Monday, working together in the Imagination Playground on Wednesday, making art on Thursday, and flying up to the next grade level on Friday.

Dear Sacred Heart Families,

Happy Holy Week! I know many of you are traveling for Easter break, but if you are in town, I highly encourage you to attend the variety of services our parish offers leading up to Easter. Here is a quick list of the services:Holy Thursday - Mass of the Lord’s Supper 7pm at St. Philip ChurchGood Friday - Stations of the Cross 12 noon, Passion of the Lord 3pm - both at Sacred Heart ChurchHoly Saturday - Easter Vigil 8pm at Sacred Heart Church

WOW!

On Monday the second graders hosted their annual Wax Museum where they dressed up as influential people from history. They shared interesting facts about their individual as well as the impact they made on history. Other grade levels came and intently listened to our second graders give their speeches and parents visited at the end of the day.

The Danny Did Foundation takes its name from the last line of Danny Stanton’s obituary, written by his dad: “Please go and enjoy your life. Danny did.” They celebrate Danny’s spirit in every child and family they reach. Founded by Chicago parents Mike and Mariann Stanton in 2010 after the sudden death of their four-year-old son Danny, the Danny Did Foundation’s primary mission is to prevent deaths caused by seizures. The Foundation advances public awareness of epilepsy and Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) and strives to improve communication about SUDEP between medical professionals and families affected by seizures. A recent event at Lake Forest Academy had groups of individuals, including guests from the Chicago Blackhawks organization, skate to raise funds for the foundation. The group that participated from Sacred Heart represented the youngest to complete the five miles -- 55 laps around the rink. The students were all very excited about skating and supporting such a great cause.

If you have not yet had the Virtus training that is required by the Archdiocese to volunteer in classrooms or on field trips, Dana Vance will be giving a Virtus session at Holy Name Cathedral on Saturday April 27 from 1-4pm. Please be aware the Cathedral parking lot no longer exists-plan to take public transportation or use one of the many public garages nearby. If you do attend, you must register ahead of time on Virtus.org. The session will take place in the Club Room at Frances Xavier Warde School. If you have any questions, please email Dana at [email protected].

Just a reminder that tomorrow is an early dismissal day (noon for JK and 1:20 for K-8 students). We will have a Holy Thursday prayer service at 10:45 in the Parish Center and would love for parents and family members to join us.

If you are traveling for break we pray for a safe return. We come back for a full day of school on Thursday April 25. Teachers will be inspired and refreshed following two days at the National Catholic Educational Association Conference that we are all attending Tuesday the 23rd and Wednesday the 24th. We are fortunate that the Conference is in Chicago this year so we are able to attend and interact with Catholic educators not only from Chicago but from all over the country who come to this event. We are looking forward to the workshops and exhibits, not to mention meeting new friends from other Catholic schools all over the United States!

Have a blessed week and Easter!
