Part-Time Children’s Choir Director - St. Jude Catholic Parish, Redmond,
St. Jude Parish, a 1450 household suburban parish with excellent liturgy, programs and staff, is seeking a part-time Director for its Youth/Children’s Choir. The Choir will sing once/month for 10 months at liturgies as a supplement to regular choirs or can-tors. Responsible for collaborating with the Pastoral Associate, Pastor, and Director of Family Faith Formation in recruiting, rehearsing, and presenting the Youth/Children’s Choir. Requires background in working with children, music and choir direc-tion. Deadline for applications is August 15th. Salary is DOE. For further information or application packet, contact Krista Schafer at [email protected].
Saint Joachim & Saint Anne, July 26th “The tradition of Saints Joachim and Anne (first century) is not scriptural but comes mostly from the apocryphal Protoevangelium of James. It became popular in the thir-teenth century when Jacobus de Voragine retold the story in his Golden Legend, which was very popular in the Middle Ages. The story of the conception of Mary echoes that of Samuel (see 1 Samuel 1:20): Joachim and Anne are a childless couple who pray to have children and promised to dedicate their child to God. Each is told by an angel that they will conceive, and afterward they meet at the gate of Jerusalem and embrace in joy. This event has been depicted in art by artists such as Dürer and Giot-to.” (2018 Sourcebook for Sundays, Seasons and Week-days, 259)
Saint James, July 25th “The Saint James we honor today is the brother of the Apostle John, one of the “Sons of the Thunder” (Mark 3:17) who were privileged witnesses of some of Jesus greatest signs: the raising of the daughter of Jairus from the dead, the Transfiguration, and the agony in the garden. James was the first Apostle to suffer martyrdom and the only one to have his death recorded in the Acts of the Apostles. According to legend, his friends carried his re-mains away in a rudderless boat that drifted all the way down to Spain. Many centuries later, they were discovered and a great cathedral was built over the spot (Santiago de Compostela), which became one of the most popular pil-grimage destinations of the Middle Ages. He is venerated as the patron saint of Spain, Nicaragua and Guatema-la.” (2018 Sourcebook for Sundays, Seasons and Week-days, 259)
This year, for the first time, Tacoma has the honor of
hosting the 79th Annual Tekakwitha Conference. The
conference runs from July 18-22 at the Greater Taco-
ma Convention Center.
This annual gathering is held to be the voice, pres-
ence and identity of indigenous Catholics under the
protection and inspiration of Saint Kateri
Tekakwitha. Canonized in 2012, she is the first Na-
tive American to be canonized a saint and thus very
precious to Native Catholics around the world.
WELCOME TO OUR

TO BE A CHRISTIAN STEWARD—Part 4
“As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” (1 Peter 4:10)
What identifies a steward? Safeguarding material and human resources and using them re-sponsibly are one answer; so is generous giving of time, talent, and treasure. But being a Christian steward means more. As Christian stewards, we receive God’s gifts gratefully, cultivate them responsibly, share them lovingly in justice with others, and return them with increase to the Lord.
Stewards of the Church Stewards of God’s gifts are not passive beneficiaries. We cooperate with God in our own redemption and in the redemption of others.
We are also obliged to be stewards of the Church—collaborators and cooperators in continuing the redemptive work of Jesus Christ, which is the Church’s essential mission. This mission—proclaiming and teaching, serving and sanctify-ing—is our task. It is the personal responsibility of each one of us as stewards of the Church.
All members of the Church have their own roles to play in carrying out its mission: • Parents, who nurture their children in the light of faith. • Parishioners, who work in concrete ways to make their parishes true communities of faith and vibrant sources of
service to the larger community. • All Catholics, who give generous support—time, money, prayer, and personal service according to their circum-
stances—to parish and diocesan programs and to the universal Church.
