Prayer for Vocations
Compassionate Heart of Jesus, graciously listen to
our prayers. Give us generous hearts to respond to
your call in our lives. Lift up courageous men and
women willing to follow after your heart as priests,
sisters, brothers, and deacons. Help parents and
teachers to share the faith and to encourage young
people to explore religious vocations. Guide all
people, Lord, in your ways of compassion, truth,
and peace, that we may find happiness in fulfilling
our vocation. Amen.

Saints of the Week
January 21—Saint Agnes
Agnes of Rome is a virgin martyr, venerated as a
saint in the Roman Catholic Church, Eastern Or-
thodox Church, the Anglican Communion, and
Lutheranism. She is one of seven women who,
along with the Blessed Virgin, are commemorated
by name in the Canon of the Mass. Agnes is de-
picted in art with a lamb, evoking her name which
is based on the Latin word for "lamb", agnus. She is also
shown with a martyr's palm. She is the patron saint of chastity
and virgins, as well as gardeners.
January 24—Saint Francis de Sales,
Bishop
Francis de Sales CO OM OFM Cap.
was a Bishop of Geneva and is hon-
ored as a saint in the Catholic Church.
He became noted for his deep faith and
his gentle approach to the religious
divisions in his land resulting from the
Protestant Reformation. He is known
also for his writings on the topic of
spiritual direction and spiritual forma-
tion, particularly the Introduction to
the Devout Life and the Treatise on the Love of God.

lenges of contemporary culture. Hosted by Bishop Robert Barron, the documentary focuses on the cul-
tural obstacles the Church faces today, such as the emergence of “the new atheism” and relativistic atti-

Praying to Our Mother for others
Perpetual Candles at Sacred Heart
As May is the month of Our Lady, we are reminded that our greatest intercessor is Our Lady.
We are blessed to have three sacred spaces with candles at which we can light a candle for our
prayers and special intentions.
These candles can be used for weekly visits, as many of you already do. There is also the pos-
sibility to reserve a candle for a month(s) or a year. Some of the intentions for which a num-
ber of parishioners have reserved candles:
Deceased or living family
Condolence for friends or family
Anniversary of Marriage
Birthday Automatically with the condolences, we send a letter to notify the grieving family of the candle
lit in our church for their loved one. We can also send a letter when requested for the others.
Visit one of our candle devotional spaces to light a candle. Fill out the form below to re-
serve a candle for a month or year.
Prayer to Saint Michael:
Saint Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle, be
our defense against the wickedness and snares of the
devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do
thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of
God, thrust into Hell Satan and the other evil spirits
who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.
Amen.
Preghiera a San Michele:
San Michele Arcangelo, difendici nella battaglia; sii tu nostro sostegno contro la perfidia e le insidie del diavolo; che Dio eserciti il suo dominio su di lui, te ne preghiamo supplichevoli; e tu, o Principe della milizia celeste, con la potenza divina, ricaccia nell'inferno satana e gli altri spiriti maligni i quali errano nel mondo per perdere le anime. AMEN.

Values that Last a Lifetime!
Bulletin Column for Ordinary Time
Here we are back in Ordinary time again. Time is something which is precious to most people; especially to Americans.
We often hear the expression, “Time is money.” This means, that for us, time is a valuable commodity. We don’t like to waste
time. What we do with our time is very important to us and reflects how we would like other people to think about us.
When we think of something as being ordinary, we think of it as being “common,” “dull,” or without vitality. Most peo-
ple shy away from the ordinary because it doesn’t spark our imagination or feed our curiosity. We may think of something which
is ordinary as being mediocre or average.
Such is not the case with Ordinary Time in the liturgical life of the Church. In fact, the term Ordinary Time may be
somewhat of a misnomer. The liturgical season we call Ordinary Time is comprised of 33-34 weeks, and there is nothing ordinary
about this time.
Unlike the other liturgical seasons such as Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, which focus on a specific mystery of Christ;
the weeks of Ordinary Time, especially Sundays, are devoted to the mystery of Christ in all its fullness. Why, especially on Sun-
days? Because we are reminded “…that in this first day of the week the Lord of Life was raised up and creation came at last to
completion…” (taken from St. Andrew Bible Missal, Brooklyn, N.Y., 1982).
This celebration of the fullness of the mystery of Christ, which is also a celebration of our hope in the fullness of eternal
life with our Triune God, is anything but ordinary. On the contrary, it is quite extraordinary.
Ordinary Time begins on January 10 and continues through February 28, the day before Ash Wednesday, the beginning
of Lent. It will resume when the Easter season ends on June 5, the day following Pentecost and continues until the following Ad-
vent.
So, don’t be bored by Ordinary Time. You are celebrating the fullness of the mystery of Christ and the hope of eternal
life with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
God bless you all,
Fr. Guy
