Pastor’s Message
A very joyful Mission Sunday to everyone! Today is a time to re-commit to the Church’s missionary activity through prayer and sacri-fice...or as Saint John Paul the Sec-ond says, it is a moment to make an offering on behalf of the missions (Encyclical Redemptoris Missio,
81). And although it is important to financially support these efforts of the Church, we must remember that missionary efforts first begin from within. This is the first and most im-portant mission -- that we ourselves go to God! In to-day’s Gospel, one recognizes that
special wisdom that is oftentimes given to those who live in difficult situations. The blind man in the Gospel, Bartimaeus the son of Ti-maeus, discovered a great treasure. What exactly was this blessing? Bartimaeus recognized his need for Christ!! This is the point of all mis-
sionary work -- that in our weakness, we go to Christ. "Jesus, son of Da-vid, have pity on me." And many rebuked him, tell-ing him to be si-lent. But he kept calling out all the more, "Son of David, have pity on me." Bartimaeus understood that he depended on Christ, and in the end, this humility of dependence is what allows the missions to grow. Through these efforts of ours, may the goodness of Christ continue spreading to those around us. We ask the Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church, to intercede for our com-munity .
—Fr. Andy Kmetz, IVE

All Souls Day Memorial Mass
On Tuesday, November 2nd, the Feast of All Souls, we will offer a Memorial Mass at 7 PM at St. Rita Church for all those who wish to commemorate the loss of a loved one. Names of those from the Pastorate deceased since last year’s memorial mass will be read and candles will be lit for those whose loved ones have let us know they plan to participate. The Memorial Tree, laden with personalized ornaments that you have purchased will be blessed and lit for the first time at this Mass. The tree will remain on the altar until Advent begins, at which time you can pick your ornaments up in the back of church and use them for gifts or on your own tree. As we approach Advent and Christmas, this is a beautiful tribute to those who are still so very dear to us

Adult Faith Formation
In Faith Formation last week, we finished our program about the Eucharist, with a very “meaty” discussion about objections to the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist from Jews, Protestants, and those claiming no reli-gion. You can see this excellent program, “Presence”, on formed.org. if you were not able to join us. This past Wednesday, we began a program about Recon-ciliation called “Forgiven.” The program explains that confession is an encounter with God’s mercy; it ex-plains the steps of the rite, tells us the Biblical foundation of sin, mercy, and the sacrament of confession, and an-swers to common questions about the sacrament. Please join us on Wednesdays 6:00-7:20pm at Sacred Heart of Mary School on Youngstown Avenue. You can also join us via zoom. If you’d like to do so, please email Peggy at [email protected]

Produce Boxes—for those in need
Every Friday morning, there will be produce boxes available for those in need. They will be given from the parking lot of Sacred Heart of Mary. Please spread the word or share a box with those in need. This is a service offered by Baltimore City and continues for the next sev-en weeks (except the holiday weekend of Thanksgiving).
As the Pastorate prepares for the holidays, we are in need of volunteers to serve to prepare food and toys for those in need. Also, we are in need of volun-teers to help with the Advent and Christmas bulk mailings. If you or someone you know if available, please call the office.
Thank you! God is never outdone in generosity !
