The “Peter’s Pence” Collection
This collection gets its name from an ancient custom. In 9th Century England, King Alfred the Great collected pence (or pennies) from
all landowners to donate to the pope. Today, as in the 9th Century, the Peter’s Pence col-lection helps the Holy Father respond to op-pression, natural disasters, war, and disease with charitable donations.
The contributions of the United States make up about one-third of the funds collected world wide, and truly make a difference. Your contribution is appreciated!! Our Pe-ter’s Pence collection will be taken up on June 28th!!
Uniform Sale
Our school will have a sale of used uniforms on Monday, June 15th from 9 m until 2 pm. If you have uniforms to sell, please bring them to the school by the 15th!
You may also place orders for new uniforms for the upcoming school year on this same day.
Corpus Christi The Most Holy Body & Blood of Christ
Corpus Christi pays homage to the Eucharist. We owe a debt to St. Juliana of Belgium, who felt that God was leading her to start the celebration in 1230 A. D. In 1264, Pope Urban IV commanded universal celebration, but died before this could be imple-mented. Pope Clement V took up the cause and the Council of Vienne ordered the adoption of the feast in 1311. The Catholic Catechism summarizes the impor-tance of the Eucharist as “the source & summit of the Christian’s life...for in the blessed Eucha-rist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church, namely Christ Himself…” (1324) St. Thomas Aquinas is given credit for many of the customs, as well as traditional hymns such as Lauda Sion, O Salutaris, & Pange Lingua, which are associated with this very special day.
