FOLLOWING CHRIST If you’ve ever had an unpleasant but somewhat amusing practical joke played on you, then you have some understanding of how Jeremiah feels today when he tells God “good one—you duped me.” We can almost see him shaking his head with a bit of a rueful smile, but an angry undertone in his voice. In similar fashion, Peter thinks Jesus is “duping” him when Jesus starts to explain that being Messiah means suffering and dying, and being a follower of the Messiah means taking up a cross and doing the same. Jeremiah tries to deny God’s will for him by trying to shut up; Peter—who has just been made the foundation of the church—out and out denies the teaching of Jesus, for which he is named “Satan” today. Fortunately for us, Jeremiah comes to realize that to have the word of God placed in your heart means that it will be futile to try and keep silent, even if it means scorn and derision from those around you. Luckily Peter ultimately returned to the faith he professed in last week’s Gospel, and came to understand our need as baptized followers of Christ to follow in his way, even when it means following him to our very death. Is God Calling You? Many people attend Sacred Heart Parish that are not fully initiated into the Catholic Faith. And we are so glad you do and you are most welcome! However, have you asked God if NOW might be a good time to enter the wonderful process known as the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)? Classes begin Aug 22 and are held each Tues at 7pm in the Social Hall. Childcare will be available. For more information, contact Michelle in the church office at 478-923-0124. Easter will be here before you know it and we would love to welcome you to the sacraments and a deeper walk with the Lord!
The next Baptism Preparation Class will be on Thursday, Oct 5, 2017 at 7:00pm. The Baptism Preparation Class is offered every other month for parents
and godparents in the Church Fellowship Room. Please read the requirements (on page 10) for baptizing your child. Registration is required. Please call the office to register. Child care will be provided.
Pre Cana Workshop The next Marriage Pre Cana Workshop is September 16
(rescheduled from Sept. 9). This is a requirement for couples planning to marry in the Church.
Registration is required. Please call the office to register. Cost is $50.00 per couple.
How can you believe all this stuff? This is the number-one question Catholics get
asked and, sometimes, we ask ourselves. Why do we believe that God exists, that he
became a man and came to save us, that what looks like a wafer of bread is actually his body? Join us for Faith, Food & Fellowship on Sundays during CCD as we read the book “Why We’re Catholic”. Classes
are from 10:30 -11:15 beginning Aug. 20 in the Social Hall, Room 103. Books will be available for $4 at class or in the office. Whether you’re a Catholic
looking to deepen your faith or you’re curious about the claims made by the Church, join us as we delve
deeper in what we believe.
Please prayerfully consider volunteering for the parish retreat which is being held Sept. 28-30. Three full meals will be served at
the retreat. Volunteers will be needed for set up, serving, and
clean up. Desserts are also needed for the breaks. If you are able to join our kitchen team,
please call Kathy Mason at 478-718-5540.
WEDNESDAY MASS, MEAL & FORMATION RETURNS SEPTEMBER 6!
This fall, religious leaders from the area will be speaking each Wednesday night to explain their church’s history, their doctrine and what their services are like. Don’t miss

6:30 pm - Meal in the Social Hall Cafeteria 7:00 pm - Formation in the Social Hall

who has completed the CR 12 Step program. Hearing someone’s testimony lets us know that we are not alone with our burdens. This Tuesday we have a special guest giving her testimony, Sandy Henson. Sandy is the Celebrate Recovery Ministry Leader at Southside Baptist Church – one of the largest CR ministries in the country. Come out and listen!

SIGUIENDO A CRISTO
