Dear Sisters and Brothers in the Lord, Welcome to Sacred Heart Church!

Thanks for joining our worshiping community as we celebrate our Eucharistic Liturgy for the 16

th Sunday

in Ordinary Time. We are blessed through your prayerful participation.

May the Risen Lord strengthen our faith and lift our spirit as we listen to the Word and share the Bread of Life. In today’s Gospel, Luke again provides us with additional insights on discipleship. Jesus is welcomed to the home of Martha and Mary. While Martha is “burdened with much serving,” Mary sat at the feet of Jesus, “listening to him speak.” Hospitality is experienced in serving and listening. Both have their place when hosting guests. Jesus, though, is not an ordinary visitor. Jesus comes not to be served, but to proclaim the Good News. The “better part” at this time is listening to Jesus. I would suggest that Martha might be more comfortable “doing,” preparing food for her guest, rather than listening. Martha is not unlike most of us when it comes to listening. Listening requires a “conscious effort to hear.” Listening implies a desire, an openness, for the wisdom expressed in the words spoken by another person. Jesus’ presence in her home prompts Mary to listen to him, “the better part.” Martha’s response is a good one, just not the best response. Each weekend we come together as a worshiping community for our Eucharistic Liturgy. One task we have as participants is listening. Blocking out distractions and being attentive to the Word proclaimed can be a challenge for many of us. Mary portrays, in “attentive listening,” our disposition when the Lord speaks to us through the sacred Scriptures proclaimed in our Liturgy. May we

be blessed with an open mind and heart as we listen to Jesus speak. It is the “better part.” Be well! God bless, Fr. McKee

Do You Know Someone Interested in Becoming a

Catholic? The main reason people say they did not become Catholic sooner is because no one asked them! Now is the time to invite someone to RCIA (the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). This is a program for adults who

are interested in exploring the Catholic faith, and perhaps in becoming Catholic.

Weekly meetings are held to discuss questions of interest about the Catholic Church and its teachings in a relaxed, conversational environment. No commitment is required to come and explore the faith, but the opportunity to take a further step toward becoming Catholic is available if desired. RCIA is also the place for baptized Catholics who may not have learned about their faith and/or completed the Sacraments of Initiation (Confirmation and/or Eucharist) to take the next step. Come and see!

Sessions will begin in September. Pease contact Sr. Bridget at 610-449-3000 at the Parish Center for more information about the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. God bless you!

Congratulations! In addition to the previous list of High School students achieving Honors on the End of Year Report we add: At Malvern Prep: - Andrew Stetser - Distinguished Honors
