1.Dividetheclassintofivesmallgroupsandassignoneofthefollowingwordstoeachgroup:• conversion• confession• forgiveness• penance• reconciliationItmightbehelpfultogiveeachgroupalargepieceofpaperandhavearecorderwritethegroup’swordinthemiddleofthepaper.Askthegroupstoquicklywritedownwordstheyassociatewiththeirassignedwords.Iftheyhavetheirwordsonlargesheetsofpaper,encouragethestudentstowriteonthesheetsofpaperandsurroundthewords.Afterthegroupshaverecordedtheconnectionstheyhavemade,havethemsharetheinformationwiththeclass.Affirmtheirinsightswhenrelevant.

2.ConductapresentationontheeffectsoftheSacramentofPenanceandReconciliationandthedifferentnamesfortheSacrament,usingkeyphrasesfromstep1ofthisactivityandfrompage228ofThe Catholic Faith Handbook for Youth, Third Edition (CFH).

3.Sharethefollowinginformationwiththestudentsinyourownwords:• “JesusandtheChurchareconcernedabouthealingallkindsofillness:spir-

itual,mental,andphysical.ThisiswhywehavetwoSacramentscalledtheSacramentsofHealing:PenanceandReconciliation,andAnointingoftheSick.TheSacramentofPenanceandReconciliationisconcernedprimarilywithspiritualhealing,whiletheSacramentofAnointingoftheSickiscon-cernedwithphysical,mental,andspiritualhealing”(CFH,pp.225–226).

• Inthisactivitywewillusetheexampleofakneeinjurytohelpusunder-standhowoursoulcanbeinjuredbysinandhowtheSacramentofPen-anceandReconciliationcanhealit.

4.InvitethestudentstosharetheeffectsoftheSacramentofAnointingoftheSickthattheyuncoveredinthereading.Recordtheeffectsontheboard,besidewhattheyknewabouttheSacramentatthebeginningofthisactivity.Conductapresentationonthematerialfromthesections“TheEffectsofAnoint-ingoftheSick”and“ReceivingtheSacramentofAnointingoftheSick,”onpages233–235oftheCFH.
