PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

We rang in 2007 with a bang with 147 attendees at the Sacramento section Awards Banquet – one of the highest turnouts ever! Mike Fisher arranged an excellent awards program with help from Jody Allen, Dan Rich, Pat Fuss, Andy Briones, Nichole Baker, and Ed Marlow acting as emcee. Thank you to everyone who participated in this wonderful event. A list of the award winners is included on page 6. Our first luncheon of the year will take place on February 28th with an Electrical & Instrumentation presentation given by Charles Aycock of the City of Roseville. Please remember to check out the flyer for this event in the newsletter and make sure you RSVP. We will again be co-hosting with the CSUS Civil Engineering Program Industry Advisory Committee (CEPIAC) for “An Evening with Industry” for civil engineering students on March 7, 2007. Firms interested in sponsoring the event should contact Nichole Baker (see page 2 for contact information). Amber Parmer and Andy Smith are leading a new local section committee to reach out to our Young Professionals. They have several tours planned throughout the year, which are meant to be more relaxed and geared towards wastewater professionals under 35. As you can see, we have an exciting year lined up and we always NEED VOLUNTEERS. Some of the areas where you can get involved this year include:

• Committees: Each of the committees listed on page 2 is always looking for volunteers. Even if the chair is filled, we always need people to help them out

• Annual Picnic: In August, we hold our always popular (and free) annual picnic and we’ll definitely need people to organize and participate.

If you want more information or if you have suggestions, please feel free to send me an email ([email protected]). Thank you,

Jennifer McNutt

SAS President

To better serve the younger members of ASCE, and to bridge the gap between student chapters and the national organization, younger member groups have been formed all over the US. Amber Parmer graduated from CSUS with a B.S. in Civil Engineering in 2003. She has worked at the Sacramento Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant for 3.5 years with Operations Support. For the last year, Amber has worked with County Sanitation District-1 (CSD-1) with the Engineering Design group.
