Graves Sac and Fox Nation Police Officer Obituaries Joan Josephine Thorpe Joan Josephine Thorpe Janet “Sissy” Baucum Janet “Sissy” Baucum Nathan B. Graves Nathan B. Graves, Chandler, Oklahoma, resident, was born November 29, 1971, in Midwest City, Oklahoma, and departed this life January 24, 2017, in Stroud, Oklahoma, at the age of 45 years. Nathan was the son of Dwayne and Pam (Brown) Graves. He grew up in Midwest City, Oklahoma, and graduated from Midwest City High School in 1990. Nathan married Janet Keene on September 14, 1998, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He worked in law en- forcement for many years. Nathan was a current Tribal Police Officer with the Sac & Fox Nation, and was a former Stroud Police officer. His hobbies included, riding motorcycles, fishing with his boys, and collecting police patches. He was a HUGE OSU FAN, awe- some cook, and for a while was a stay at home dad. Nathan loved his family and fellow officers in blue; he truly had a servant’s heart. His brother, Jeffery Graves, and Grandfather, John D. Graves preceded Nathan in death. Survivors include, his wife Janet of the home; six children, Wendy Ann Graves of August, Georgia, Matthew Thomas Rupert of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Caleb Rupert Graves of Moore, Oklahoma, Annie Rose Graves-Morrill of Waynoka, Oklahoma, Jonathan Levi Graves of Augusta, Georgia, and Jacob Luke Graves of Chandler, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren, Gabriel, Nevaeh, Kayden, Seren- ity, Talen, Camden, Brayden, Amberlynn, Malachi and Lucas; parents, Dwayne and Pam Graves of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one sister, Laura Atterbury of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; close family friend, Brad Patterson; other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held at 1:30 PM, Saturday, January 28, 2017, at the First Baptist Church in Chandler, Oklahoma, with Pastor Mark Wilson officiating. Burial was at Sunnylane Cemetery, in Del City, Oklahoma. Services were under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Chandler, Oklahoma. Sissy was born June 12, 1960, in Stroud, OK, to Robert Lauderdale and Virginia Brown. She departed this earthly life on Dec. 31, 2016. She resided in Odessa, TX, but passed away at Baylor All Saints in Fort Worth, TX. She is survived by the following loved ones: husband, James Baucum; sons, Robert “Robby” Ramos and wife Amber Ramos, Jacky Vance, and Jeffrey Goolsby and wife Heather Goolsby; brothers, Ronnie Lauderdale and wife Tammy Lauderdale and Tracy Lauderdale; grandchildren, Elijah Ramos, Noah Ramos, Leah Ramos, Jaxson Vance, Ma- son Vance, Morgan Vance, Kirstin Goolsby, Colton Goolsby, and one on the way, Mad- eline Goolsby. Sissy also leaves behind many more relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Lauderdale and Virginia Brown; and brother, Barry Lauderdale. Sissy enjoyed being at Lake Brownwood with family and friends and traveling to any destination. She made it clear to everyone how proud she was of “her boys.” Sissy was especially happy around her grandkids, who lovingly called her Gigi. She will be missed by her family and friends, and memories of her will always be a cherished blessing. Memorial services were held at Mid-Cities Community Church on Friday, Jan 6th at 3 p.m. Joan Josephine Thorpe, 89, daughter of Ed and Mary Thorpe, was born May 18, 1927, in Sacred Heart and passed away Saturday, Dec. 24, 2016. Joan was married to George D. Akers in Redlands, Calif., in 1947. She is a member of the Sac and Fox Nation and a descendant of Sac and Fox Chief Black Hawk and niece to famed athlete Jim Thorpe. She attended Sherman Indian High School in Riverside, Calif. While at Sherman she played drums and piano and was a member of the school band. Joan will always be remembered for her good humor and love of life. Joan will be greatly missed by her family and friends who loved her very much. She is survived by her three children: daughter, Marta Bruno and husband Rick, sons, Eddie Akers and wife Judy, Randy Akers and wife Susan; five grandchildren: Grady Jenkins and wife Lori, Tyler Akers, Kaitlin Akers, Tasha Spores and husband Doug, Margo Root and husband Phillip; six great-grandchildren, Kelly Spores, Jay Spores, Charlie Spores, Reagan Spores, Kaitlin Root and Sierra Root; and niece, Col- leen Beck. Maxine Roseanna (Coker) Trubshaw, Shawnee, Oklahoma, 80 years old, passed away January 4, 2017. Maxine was the 4th of 6 children born to Thomas and Frances (Walker) Coker on September 14, 1936 in Pawnee, Oklahoma. Maxine’s Indian heritage was Sem- inole from her father, Thomas Coker and Sac and Fox from her mother Frances Walker. By Sac and Fox tradition, her adopted mother was Christine Williamson of Cushing, Oklahoma. She was Thunder Clan and her Indian name was Shuck A Da. She was a de- scendent of London Coker and Chief Mah-ko-sah-toe. Maxine attended school at Pleasant Grove, west of Seminole, Oklahoma. She played basketball for the Comets where she made the basketball team when she was a freshman. She graduated high school in 1952 at the age of 16. She went on to attend St. Anthony’s nursing school; she was the first of her family to go on to higher education. Because of her husband’s job, she lived in Alaska, Colorado, Wisconsin and Illinois. She was an ex- ecutive secretary to Colonels at the Military Airlift Command headquarters at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. She retired after serving over 2 decades. She returned to Oklahoma in 1983 and lived in Seminole and Shawnee. She served on the Health Commission and the Housing Authority for the Sac and Fox tribe and was an active member of the Elder’s Committee. In the 1950’s she was very good at dancing at the American Legion Hall in Seminole, Maxine Roseanna Trubshaw went on to shake shells at stomp dances and Southern Cloth at pow wows. Along with her family, she played cards, and taught her grandchildren to play poker. Maxine is survived by her two daughters, Roseanna Preston of Meeker, Oklahoma and Johanna Smith and her husband Jimmy of Belleville, Illinois; one brother Walter Coker and his wife JoAnn of Shawnee, Oklahoma; three sisters, Thelma Coker, Mary McCor - mick and Dora Young all of Seminole, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Thomas Coker, Jr. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma, with Rev. Dorsey Nero officiating. Following the services in the funeral home chapel, she was taken to the Sac and Fox Tribal Grounds south of Stroud, Oklahoma for traditional tribal services Saturday at 6:00 P.M. Burial took place at the Thomas Coker II Cemetery, west of Seminole, Oklahoma on Sunday morning, January 8, 2017. Casket bearers were David Preston, Thomas Smith, Lucas Smith, Marshall Smith, Jimmy Smith and Joe Kinslow. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Katherine Thorpe. Graveside services were at the Highland Cemetery under direction of Comanche Nation Funeral Home in Lawton Okla- homa. Sac and Fox officer, Nathan Graves to be enshrined at the Oklahoma Law-Enforcement Memorial May 19th, 2017 10:00 a.m. in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and the National Law-Enforcement Memorial in Washington D.C. on May 15th, 2018.

Nathan B. Graves, Chandler, Oklahoma, resident, was born November 29, 1971, in Midwest City, Oklahoma, and departed this life January 24, 2017, in Stroud, Oklahoma, at the age of 45 years.
