LA PAZ, BCS JUNE 22, 2019
In 2018, the ICUN international award as one of the best managed and protected national parks in the world. It's the first such award in Mexico and only the seond in all Latin America.
To celebrate the progress in protecting Espíritu Santo National Park, we have joined efforts to organize a unique food and music event, serving seafood that comes from responsible fishing prepared by recognized local chefs committed to the conservation of Espíritu Santo National Park.
Funds raised from the event will be divided between the following organizations who work tirelessly to create the amazing recovery taking place at Espíritu Santo National Park.
Espiritu Santo es Parte de ti (Espíritu Santo is a part of you): A grassroots campaign to promote pride among the
citizens of La Paz in a healthy, vibrant Espiritu Santo National Park. The campaign promotes the consumption of responsible fishing and avoiding products that come from illegal fishing. The campaign works hand in hand with La Paz chefs and restaurateurs who have committed not to sell or serve illegally caught reef-critical parrotfish.
Red de Observadores Ciudadanos (Network of Citizen Observers): A non-profit organization that works directly with government
authorities to support vigilance at Espiritu Santo National Park, Bahia de Balandra Natural Area and the Tiburón Ballena Protected Zone.
Mar Libre (Free Sea): A non-profit organization that performs monthly cleanups
on reefs and mangroves, and gives talks on environmental education in primary, secondary and high schools.
Rescate de lobos marinos (Sea Lion Rescue): A non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue of sea lions injured by entanglement with nets in Espíritu Santo National Park.
Eco: A non-profit organization that carries out underwater monitoring
of marine species within Espíritu Santo National Park and working to find the status of Gulf of California’s herbivorous fish, like parrotfish, in order to find a legal way to protect them.
