On the weekend of 16-17 June 2018,
Karla Sanchez was visiting the Guada-
lupe River for some tubing with
friends in New Braunfels, Texas. They
were staying at Roy’s Campgrounds
and Rentals. Karla had a ring that was
made specially for her father who
passed away in 2014. Karla found
strength in wearing her fathers ring
on her finger everyday. This particu-
lar weekend, she went tubing with
friends and somewhere along the
route, the tube she was in with an-
other friend capsized, and she lost her
fathers ring. Karla was beside herself
from anxiety and depression until she
found our club website and asked for
assistance. The ring is a silver signet
ring with her fathers initials in old
English style “A S” and its a pretty
clunky ring. On 12 August 2018, our
President, Kevin Cupit, coordinated a
search for the ring based out of Roy’s
Rental and Campground. Another club
member volunteered to help, Michael
Oakes. Based on the depth and speed
of the river as well as the approximate
location of the incident, will determine
whether our club volunteers will be ale
to help Karla or not. Lots of grass and
sediment was found by Kevin and the
search did not reveal any rings. Karla
was appreciative of our efforts and
thanked the club for the help.

Recovering Treasure since 1971.
The San Antonio Area Metal Detecting Club has roots dating back to 1971.
It started out as a few people, with an interest in a new phenomenon
known as metal detecting. Fast forward to 2017, and we now have 68 mem-
bers and are growing each month. While the detectors might have changed
over the years, our love and passion for recovering relics of the past has
not.
As a club, we get the most fulfillment from helping out the community. We
have assisted the San Antonio Police Department and other local law en-
forcement agencies with their criminal cases using our skilled detectorists
to help find evidence, and we are always willing and able to help you try
and find that wedding ring that fell somewhere below or whatever item
you lost.
