An Epistle from Paul: No Middle of the Roaders! The middle of the road is a poor place to walk…; to drive….; to live…. The sad fact; however, is that many try to play both sides of the road when it comes to living for Christ. These are the ones who are doing their best to make sacred matters common and at the same time giving dignity to the profane. These are the ones who will slap God on the back in cheap familiarity calling Him, “the Man upstairs.” They are a product of this age of conformity, of peaceful coexistence with sin and who glorify the great general average by pulling down the high and building up the low to one common level. In War World 1 Theodore Roosevelt blasted German-Americans who had, by their choice, divided loyalties. He called them “hyphenated Americans” and said, “America is not a polyglot boarding house.” Sadly though, there are many today who want to make the Lord’s Church a polyglot boarding house, filled with hyphenated Christians. Roosevelt said, “If a man is an American AND something else, he is not an American.” Such can be said of a Christian. James tells us that “the friend of the world is the enemy of God” (James 4:4). Our Lord said, “He that is not with me is against me and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad” (Matthew 12:30). A man who is faithful to his wife part of the time is not faithful at all. A man who is partly faithful to his family or his country or his church is not faithful at all. In short, a divided loyalty is not loyalty at all. Here then is my point. An Epistle from Paul:

No Middle of the Roaders! – The middle of the road is a poor place to walk…; to drive….; to live….

This Sunday, September 27th!Sunday, September 27th immediately after morning worship, we will be having our Annual Meeting. This is the meeting we will hear reports as to the past fiscal year. We will then be presented the New Year’s budget and be asked to affirm this… We also will be asked to affirm the men who have been asked and are desirous of being responsible for the Biblical offices of elder and deacon… One last thing we will be called upon to affirm those who have been asked and desirous of being responsible for other areas of needed help in the work of the church but are not Biblical offices.
