The Common Application (Seniors) Many colleges outside of Texas as well as private colleges can be applied to by filling out the Common Application. There are more than 700 colleges listed on the Common Application. Schools in Texas include Rice Univ., SMU, Southwestern Univ., Austin College, TCU, Texas Lutheran Univ., Trinity Univ. Financial Aid Information Financial Aid Terms: Award Letter- This is the letter received notifying applicants of the assistance being offered by the college (scholarships, grants, loans, work study). It provides information on the types and amounts of aid offered as well as specific program information, student responsibilities, and the conditions of the award. Students then accept or decline the aid offered. EFC- Expected Family Contribution This is the amount a student and his or her family is expected to pay toward the student’s cost of attendance as calculated by a Congressionally-mandated formula known as Federal Methodology. The EFC is used to determine a student’s eligibility for the student financial assistance programs. It is determined after filling out the FAFSA. SAR- Student Aid Report This is the report you will receive after you have filled out the FAFSA. Unmet Financial Need- This is the amount of financial need you have based on the college’s cost of attendance minus your Expected Family Contribution (EFC). Work Study- This is where students work on campus. Income made through work study does not have to be reported on the next year’s FAFSA.
