What Child Is This
Matthew 1:1-25
This passage gives three answers to the question, “What Child is this?”
I. This Child is the ____________ ___________ (vv.1-17)
II. This Child is the ____________ ___________ (vv.18-21)
III. This Child is the ____________ ___________ (vv.22-25)
This morning, who is Jesus to you? Is He just someone you’ve tacked onto your life with no real commitment or change? Do you treat Him as a plastic figurine that you only bring out at church or during the Christmas season? Is He simply a decoration in your manger scene? Or is He your Savior and Lord? This morning, recognize Jesus as more than just a Baby in a manger. Trust Him as your Savior and Lord. Realize and understand that He came to forgive, redeem, and save you from your sin so that you can spend eternity with Him in heaven. Therefore, repent of your sins and trust Christ today.
The center candle, which is called the Christ candle, is lit on Christmas Eve. The central location of the Christ candle reminds us that the incarnation, the manifestation of God in Christ, is the heart of the season, giving light to the world. The light reminds us that Jesus comes into the darkness of our lives to bring newness, life, and hope. Most significantly, the lighting of the Christ candle reminds us that Jesus has indeed come and is among us. The Messiah was indeed born into the world and walked among the people of the earth sharing the news of Salvation in Him.
