Siena College Athletics Communications PoliciesSiena College’s general policy addressing relations with the mass media (newspapers, magazines, television, radio) is one in which personnel deal openly, honestly, quickly and accurately with media personnel to provide the media with all information about the College. The Athletic Department adheres to a strong policy that protects the individual’s rights of privacy. All press releases from the Siena College Department of Athletics are issued from the Office of Athletics Communications which sends the release to appropriate media. All requests for interviews should be directed through the Office of Athletics Communications with at least 24 hours’ notice. Interviews will be scheduled at a mutual time for both the student-athlete or coach and the media member. All classes and team responsibilities will take precedent over interviews. It is the policy of the Office of Athletics Communications to issue credentials to members of the media for men’s and women’s basketball games. The men’s basketball team room is open to the media once the head coach has concluded his press conference. The Department of Athletics and the Office of Athletic Communications reserve the right to close the team room at any time. The Office of Athletic Communications reserves the right to revoke credentials for home events at any time. Student athletes will not be expected to grant interviews on the day of a game, until the contest is completed, barring any special circumstances.

Tailgating

Please refer to the Siena College Tailgating Policy, which can be found at www.siena.edu. The policy was approved by the college cabinet and adopted in preparation for the 2017-18 competition seasons. The policy outlines the following:

Definition (Siena College): Organized activity by a group of people that occurs prior to an athletic contest, or on occasion after the conclusion of the game, and includes food and nonalcoholic beverages. The activity is typically organized by parents of athletic team members.

Identified Locations: Artificial Turf Field / Rugby Field For soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, softball, and identified club sports, a designated area for team pre and post-

game tailgating located at the South End of the Siena Turf Field complex. Designated visiting team and home team tailgate areas will be identified with signage and a tent (in the event of inclement weather). The Southwest corner of the artificial turf field plaza may be used for postgame gatherings only.

Identified Locations: Baseball Field For baseball, the designated visiting team tailgate area is located behind the visiting team dugout (3 rd base

dugout), and the designated home team tailgate area is located behind the home team dugout.

Enforcement: The Office of Public Safety will be present 90 minutes prior to scheduled athletic contests, as well as 30 minutes

after the conclusion of the contest in order to assist spectators and ensure policy compliance. If an officer identifies a non-Siena student* as drinking an alcoholic beverage on campus ;

o 1st offense – officer will ask the individual to dispose of the drink.o 2nd offense – officer will ask the individual to dispose of the drink, ask for identification, and contact the

initiated then the College may contact the noncompliant individual via letter or phone.)
