Activities

Types of ActivityIndividual/team

• Individual – something you play on your own.

• Athletics, gymnastics, singles badminton

• Team – something you play with one or more people.

• Badminton doubles, football, basketball

Competitive/Non-competitive

• Competitive – something you do to win to beat something

• Non – competitive – Something you do for

fun, friends, fitness.

Directly competitive/Indirectly competitive

• Directly competitive – you have to react to your opponent.

• Badminton – you have to move to return the shuttle

• Indirectly competitive – you do your own skill at your own time.

• High Jump – your performance not influenced by your opponents.

• For your best stroke: front crawl, back crawl or breast stroke.

• Describe the model performance divided into the following headings:

Safety

• Have equipment to keep the activity safe

• We have equipment to help us perform better

Rules and Codes of Conduct

• Things you do to make the game enjoyable.

• These are not written rules but things that everybody should do to be sports men/women.

• Sometimes called sportsmanship or etiquette

• Shake hands, kick ball out of play, hand back the shuttle etc

Scoring

• Subjective – Opinion

• Judges make a decision about your performance. It is the judges opinion of your performance.

Objective – a fact.

• Goals• Points• Runs• Fastest time• Longest distance• Shots • Highest jumped

Tactics

• A tactic is a plan that you decide before you play.

• It could be a formation like in football 3:5:2 or a tactic you use in the game eg football – using wingers.

• You may decide to change formations due to different situations during the game.

Why do we need tactics?

• You have tactics so that everyone has role/position

• You have tactics so everyone has a job they need do – a responsibility

• You have tactics so everyone knows what to do

• You have roles in defence and in attack!!

How you decide?

• Your strengths

• Your weaknesses

• The players you have

• The weather

• The size of the park

In your jotters

• Write about a tactic you have played in a game.

• Say why this tactic was chosen.• Give at least 3 reasons.• Say what your responsibility was in both

attack and defence?• You were losing in the last ten minutes say

how you changed your tactic to improve your chance of winning.

• Something you do to be different. It is unexpected and unusual.

• Creativity in games – write one example in your jotter

• Creativity in aesthetic activities. write one example in your jotter

Adapting activities

• We adapt activities to make them

1. Easier to learn

2. So we can concentrate on individual skills or tactics

3. So younger children can get success

We can adapt activities by

• Changing the playing area – write one example in your jotter

Physical Qualities: Body ShapeMany activities have their own characteristic body shape. In other words certain body shapes are suited to specific activities.
