How to cover up parts of a Gemara1. Download your page of Gemara from hebrewbooks.org/shas

2. Open Microsoft Word.

3. Insert the page of Gemara into your Word document, just like you would insert any other picture into Word (Insert > Photo > Picture from File).

4. Crop the Gemara image if necessary to remove any extra white around the sides.

5. Stretch the Gemara to fill the whole page.

TIP: If you want to fill up more of the page, you can adjust the page margins by dragging the triangles in the ruler on top. Drag the triangles to the left.

6. Draw a rectangle shape of any size (Insert > Shape > Rectangle). Don’t worry if the Gemara page jumps over to the side after you draw the rectangle.

7. Format the rectangle so that it has these properties:

a) Right-click on the box > Wrap Text > "None" (or "In Front of Text")

b) Fill color: White

c) Line: None

d) Shadow: No Shadow

e) Transparency: Approximately 30%

8. Move the white box and adjust the size of the box so that it covers up part of the Gemara that you want to hide.

9. Copy and paste this box to make more boxes to cover other parts of the Gemara.

10. Continue copying and pasting the boxes until you are done covering up all parts of the Gemara that you want to cover

TIP #1: Try not to let the boxes overlap, otherwise the overlapping area will be whiter (more opaque, less see-through) than the rest of the semi-transparent areas

TIP #2: If you need to be more exact in how you resize the boxes, you can type in the exact sizes in the Height and Width boxes in the toolbar on top

TIP #3: Instead of using multiple boxes, you can, alternatively, just draw one big polygon (or a few big polygons), using the polygon tool.

TIP #4: You can always adjust the corner points of your shapes (whether rectangles or polygons) by right-clicking on the box and then choosing "Edit points"
