VERSUS

BOSTIK LEAGUESOUTH CENTRAL12 JANUARY 2019KICK OFF 3:00

GOOD AFTERNOON EVERYONE.

Today we have the pleasure of welcoming CHALFONT ST PETER to Runnymede Stadium for this Bostik South Central match. We hope that their players, supporters and officials enjoy their afternoon here and that all get home safely. Of course we also extend those sentiments to our three match officials and league officials.

We lost 0-3 in our earlier encounter this season, a result that led to a parting of the ways with Simon Lane. It can be said that things have not gone as planned since. Dickson Gill and his team are working hard to rebuild the squad and we signed a couple more players after our 2-0 friendly win on Tuesday against Banstead Athletic.

The Saints had a short trip to Northwood on Tuesday and won 1-0. In their recent squads they have had Jordan Berry, Alex Nolan, Michael Kalu, Rhys Rabess and Ryan Debattista, all former Sarnies.

We would like everybody’s support with our hopes of playing on a 4G pitch and training area to enable the club to go forward within the local community.

We will make this available not only for training for our first team but also for other sides we know will come and join us.

We have possibly 2 Ladies sides interested, an U18 Youth Team and various Junior sides ie Boys & Girls and we would also make it available to White Lodge free of charge.

This we wish to achieve by the end of this season.

MATCH REPORTS BOSTIK SOUTH CENTRALSATURDAY 29.12.18EGHAM TOWN 0 (0) FC ROMANIA 2 (1)CHIDUBEN ONOKWAI 2 (30, 69)By Mark Ferguson

2018 has been an annus horribilis for Egham Town FC, and I for one am glad to see the back of it. Starting with Simon Lane’s first game in charge, at Bedford Town, progressing (if that is the word) through Ashley Smith’s short tenure and ending with Dickson Gill’s first home game in charge of the Sarnies for over 15 years this calendar year has reaped this league reward:P 37 W 7 D 4 L 26 GF 34 GA 96.This latest setback, against a side only formed six years ago, and for whom training is a foreign concept apparently, came with a Sarnies line-up different even from the loss at Westfield. Unsurprisingly, with only one training session behind them (a mooted home friendly against AFC Croydon was called off at the last minute, the visitors citing illness in their squad) the collection of strangers and barely met looked ill at ease and out of sorts. FC Romania’s lack of training was offset by their familiarity with each other. Tochukwu Okolo, Kezie Ibe, Curtis Ujah and Jeevan Panesar all seem to have left Egham Town. Danny Julienne is away. Egham could do with his combativeness in midfield, for it was there that the new boys were having the greatest difficulty in retaining possession. After a somewhat tentative half hour that saw the visitors in overall control it was not much of a shock to see them take the lead, Sergiu Maximov feeding the ball to Chiduben Onokwai. He took his time sizing up the chance before placing the ball into the bottom right corner of the home net. He had earlier been denied by an excellent stop from Jack Wingate, Egham’s 5th keeper this season. Gradually Egham were finding their feet, and finally threatened the Romania goal two minutes before the break. Owen Roberts played a long pass out to left wing for Levi Shango, who cut inside before forcing a flying save from Adrian Darabant with a venomous strike. Egham started the second half in a far more determined mood, early momentum temporarily disrupted by some unwarranted play-acting by Darabant. On the hour Tristan Toney’s low drive took two deflections for a corner from which Roberts should have levelled with a free header. Luke Randall’s well-timed block on Onokwai kept Egham in the game, and Ibrahim Kehinde (who scored for Waltham Abbey in a 0-1 loss earlier this season) raced down the centre of the pitch and, under pressure from Gabriel Ghinea, fired just a fraction wide of the Romania goal. Shango then had a shot charged down and off the rebound was also off target. Keanu Williams replaced Kehinde, who was complaining of a muscle strain. With eleven minutes left Onokwai scored his 11th goal in 10 games as he pounced on an error by Sarnies’ skipper Joe Russell. How Egham could do with someone like Onokwai; three chances, two goals. That ended the match as any form of contest. Later substitutions did nothing to hinder the visitors’ stroll to three points. With nine straight away defeats Egham enter 2019 travelling up the A30 to Ashford Town (Mx.) on Saturday looking for their first points on the road in the Bostik South Central. Ashford, 0-4 losers at Bedfont Sports on Saturday, are in 6th place. On 12 January the Sarnies entertain Chalfont St Peter, then on 15 January go to South Park, where new Egham assistant manager Mick Sullivan was manager earlier this season. This factor, according to one South Park tweet, gives the fixture “added hiss”. EGHAM TOWN: Jack Wingate, Riccardo Andrady, Temiloluwa Oladejo, Luke Randall, Joseph Russell (Captain), Ibrahim Kehinde, Gilberto Abril, Owen Roberts, Tristan Toney, Levi Shango, Sean McCormack. Substitutes: Keanu Williams (Kehinde, 72), Lamar Korona (Roberts, 83), Ayobami Dami Salami, Marlon Wallen (Sango, 79), Declan Nche. Max Webb (64), Gurkan Gokmen (82)EGHAM TOWN 1 (1)Luke King (28)By Mark Ferguson

There is a pretty good chance that Egham Town started 2019 with an unwanted club record, of ten straight away league defeats. I have been with the club a considerable amount of time and cannot recall anything like a run such as this, or being told of one. This latest setback came at neighbours Ashford Town (Mx.), but at least the side put together by Dickson Gill, the third manager in this horror of a season, came with a determined attitude and can draw plenty of positives from their overall showing, especially in an excellent first half. More new faces came into the squad, taking the total of players named so far on team sheets to 67. The Sarnies (8 points) started and finished bottom of the Bostik South Central, and, with Molesey (11) and South Park (9), form a triumvirate of clubs in danger of the drop. Molesey went down at leaders Hayes & Yeading United (0-2) and South Park, whom Egham visit on 15 January, lost 1-2 at home to Marlow. Molesey are nine adrift of FC Romania. As preparation for this match Egham had a midweek friendly against Lyne, winning 5-0. With a spring in their step Egham went at their hosts from the off and in the 9th minute Sean McCormack tested keeper Tyler Tobin’s handling skills with a fierce shot. The next opening saw Ibrahim Kehinde see his drive blocked before the ball pinged across to McCormack, who was unlucky with a rising shot that cannoned off the cross bar. Ashford were getting rattled, Max Webb flattening new Egham man Danny Campion and getting booked for his, if not Campion’s, pains. Egham took the lead their early endeavour deserved with Luke Randall’s thumping header from a corner in the 28th minute. Campion, with a shot blocked, and Ibrahim Kehinde, whose surging run was only stopped by a well-timed tackle by Adam Baigent, threatened to increase the visitors’ lead before the break.Egham carried on in the same vein after the break, Kehinde’s effort blocked by defenders and McCormack firing over the bar after a break from midfield. When Webb, unmarked at the back post at an Ashford corner, headed wide from close range it looked as if Egham’s luck might have changed. Unfortunately it was not to be, but it took a superb free kick from Tangerines’ talisman Mark Bitmead to turn the tide. His kick swung behind the Sarnies’ defence where Webb was able to fire past Jack Wingate. With nine minutes left a corner kick was cleared only as far as the edge of the box and Gurkan Gokmen hooked a shot through the Egham rearguard for the winner. Had Kofi Lockhart-Adams’s later effort, a curling shot that clipped the left post, found its mark the scoreline would have been even more flattering to Ben Murray’s men. Egham have a friendly at home to Banstead Athletic on Tuesday. Banstead are third in the Premier Division of the Combined Counties League. Before they travel to fellow strugglers South Park they face Chalfont St Peter at home on Saturday. EGHAM TOWN: Jack Wingate, Luke King, Temiloluwa Oladejo, Luke Randall, Joseph Russell (Captain), Samir Bojja, Sean McCormack, Tristan Toney, Ibrahim Kehinde, Danny Campion, Lamir Cessay. Subs: Gilberto Abril (Cessay, 82), Ayobami Dami Salami (Bojja, 70), Marlon Wallen (Kehinde, 84), Declan Nche.

Egham ease through friendly

Egham Town faced Combined Counties League opposition tonight in a friendly that was hastily organised with the kind cooperation of Banstead

Athletic's manager Carl Taylor. Carl used to play for the Sarnies (he was a striker, who came to us from Staines Town). Egham took an early lead with an angled drive from Gilberto Abril, who later in the first half had to leave the pitch with a hamstring injury. We hope he recovers fully and quickly as he was settling nicely with us since starting at Westfield. WIth both sides lacking much of a cutting edge in the first period it was the visitors who rued missed chances more than Egham.Nine minutes into the second half what looked like an off-the-cuff free kick routine ended up with an Egham triallist tapping in the second goal. Shortly afterwards the Athletic keeper, after bringing down Ibrahim Kehinde in the box in a manner that would have resulted in dismissal in a competitive match, was relieved to see the Egham forward hit the foot of the left post with his spot kick. There were some very good performances for the Sarnies, particularly in defence where Yannick Makiese looked solid in goal and the two Lukes, Randall and King, were very strong. The triallist at No 2 looked more than useful too. All in all it was a good run-out in preparation for the visit of Chalfont St Peter on Saturday.
