This week’s maths focus is fluency.

In nursery we want all the children to be confident at reciting numbers in order from 1-5 then 1-10. Once your child is confident at reciting to 10 without missing out any numbers then focus on 1-15 and 1-20. You will find that children sometimes muddle their teen numbers when reciting them so by building up gradually to numbers to 20 will help them to remember them.

We also want the children to focus on the skill of subitizing. Subitizing is a numeracy skill where children are able to instantaneously recognise the number of objects in a small group without the need to count them. Identifying how many objects are in a set really helps children with their maths skills later on in school.

If you type in Jack Hart Subitizing on YouTube it will bring up lots of different subitizing songs. The children love watching and joining in with these at nursery and before nursery closed were becoming really confident with their subitizing skills.
