WritingSamuel Pepys asked the people of London about their experience

of the Great Fire of London and how they felt. This helps us to understand what it was like living at the time of the fire.

As we are living through history at the moment, your job is to find out how one of your family members is feeling during lockdown and what their experience is like. This could be

someone in your home or you could phone a grandparent or another relative.

Your writing task today is to think of the questions you are going to ask your family member.

Tomorrow, you are going to interview your family member.

Try to use different question starters. Use the word mat to help you.

Here are some examples of questions you could write:

What have you enjoyed about lockdown?

How do you feel about home learning?

Are you looking forward to lockdown ending?

Reading

This week, we would like you to choose your favourite picture book to share with

the rest of Year 2.

Practise reading it aloud, read it to your family, your toys, your pets and anyone

else who will listen until you are an expert.

Once you have practised, send in a video of you reading the book (remembering to show the pictures too), to Mrs Hadabora – vhadabora@totley.sheffield.sch.uk and from next week, we

can share your book as the class story.

Wider Curriculum

Another way of putting the fire out in 1666 was using fire squirts.

Original squirts would have been made from wood carved by hand, and then later made from brass with leather inserts to help seal the inner tube to squirt water. Some squirts would have been that large, they would have required multiple people to operate them. It was still faster to use buckets to throw water onto a fire, but a squirt could reach the upper floors of a building unlike a bucket.

Have a go at making your own (make sure the toilet rolls are empty before using them!). See how far or how high you can

squirt water. Have fun!
