MORTENSRUD ENG SITE The main quality that we noticed at the site visit were the variations in vegetation, terrain and openness. Our site is situated in the forest between Mortensrudveien and the recidental area, Stenbråten. Back when Mortensrud was an agricultural area this forest was a part of the surrounding fields. Today this area is covered by various vegetation and there is one hill on each side of our site covered by old pine trees. CONSEPT 1. These two hills works as defining points for our site. 2. Between the hills we make a crossing connection, an almenning, between Mortensrudveien, through our residential area, to the new urban street. 3. This is also a connection between two new functions serving the area: a kindergarden combined with a community house and a recycling station. 4. We have also created connections through our residential area, that adapt to the surrounding streets. And we introduce small paths for internal use. 5. Our main goal in this project is to create a neighbourhood with connections both to the surrounding situation and within itself to create smaller, social communities. In between the houses green veins functions as common and privat gardens SITUATION The allmenning is the central street in this neighbourhood, for pedestrials and bicycles only. The three connections between the Mortensrudvei and the common walking trail are connected further. They create common areas in between the houses. From here you also access your unit. In between the houses, on the opposite side of the common area there are green veins. The more private sides of the dwellings relate to this area, which can function as more private gardens too. We imagine this could be the ground of the existing forest; tuer, busker and lyng. The smaller paths through our dwellings are primarily for internal use: to get from one yard to another or crossing towards one of the a heights. CONSTRUCTION Our dwellings are placed on a concrete fundament, exposed on the ground floor. The bearing goes in the long walls: the wall facing a new unit is a crosslaminated timber wall in each floor: 100 clt/80iso/20 air/100 clt. The wall facing the staircase is a CLT wall, with a cut-out on the ground floor, a combination of CLT and gluleam beam/ column on the first floor and a gluelam beam/column on the second floor. The combination/pure gluelam is used to open up the rooms towards the staircase to get more light into the dwellings. Interior walls are thinner (100mm) CLT walls. One of these walls is continous through all floor to stiffen the construction. CLT is exposed in wet-zones because of its moisture-regulating abilities. DETAILS Our focus in detailing the project has been to create clean transitions with rational solutions. The cladding of spiler placed in two layers to cover the construction towards the climate. The stairs have been important in the project as they are a main- divider between our dwellings. We have two types of stairs in CLT: one dividing two units, the other dividing unit from outdoor. MORTENSRUD ENG

SITE

The main quality that we noticed at the site visit were the variations in vegetation, terrain and openness. Our site is situated in the forest between Mortensrudveien and the recidental area, Stenbråten. Back when Mortensrud was an agricultural area this forest was a part of the surrounding fields. Today this area is covered by various vegetation and there is one hill on each side of our site covered by old pine trees.

CONSEPT

In between the houses green veins functions as common and privat gardens

SITUATION

The allmenning is the central street in this neighbourhood, for pedestrials and bicycles only.

CONSTRUCTION

Our dwellings are placed on a concrete fundament, exposed on the ground floor.

DETAILS

Our focus in detailing the project has been to create clean transitions with rational solutions. The cladding of spiler placed in two layers to cover the construction towards the climate. The stairs have been important in the project as they are a main-divider between our dwellings. We have two types of stairs in CLT: one dividing two units, the other dividing unit from outdoor.
