love.

Calling All Mission Voices!
Second Collection Next Weekend Next weekend, October 20-21 we
will celebrate WORLD MISSION
SUNDAY. We are called to be part
of the Church’s missionary efforts,
supporting mission priests, reli-
gious Sisters and Brothers, and lay
catechists who provide loving ser-
vice to those most in need. As
Catholics around the world - here at home and in the Missions
- gather at the Eucharist around the table of the Lord, let us
PRAY for the Church’s worldwide missionary work and OF-
FER FINANCIAL HELP through The Society for the Propaga-
tion of the Faith for vulnerable communities throughout Asia,
Africa, Latin America and the Pacific Islands.
This week the Altar Flowers were donated by
Mother Francesca in loving memory of her
daughter Rosa Alba Stranieri.
The Blessed Mother’s Sanctuary Candle will be lit
this week in loving memory of Rosa Alba Stranieri
requested by her Mother Francesca.
The Center Sanctuary Candle will be lit this week
in loving memory of John Leach - 17th Anniversary,
requested by his wife Gloria Leach.

For the young adults and youth of our parish a
Mass is being added to our regular schedule on
the third Sunday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in
the Upper Church. All will of course be wel-
comed to attend – and participate at! – these
“Young Adult and Youth Masses” at which the
hymns will be traditional and appropriate but
with a more up-beat tempo that will help lift
minds, voices, and hearts to God; the musical
instruments will include an electronic keyboard
and guitar and will be located in and be very
visible from the sanctuary; the singers/vocalists
will also be in the sanctuary and face-to-face
with the congregation; and the homily will re-
late the Scripture readings of the day to current
and contemporary concerns and experiences of
our young adults and youth. Our next monthly
Young Adult and Youth* Mass will be cele-
brated on Sunday, October 21 at 6:00 p.m.
Please pass the word and join us and bring a
friend or two!
* Incidentally, some may ask what we mean by
“young adults and youth”….we leave that up to
you (and, again, ALL are welcome and invited
to these Masses) but for the sake of “providing
a number” let’s say the phrase applies to those
in their mid/late teens and in their 20s and 30s
and to the young and youthful at heart.
Fall Campaign: September 26, 2018 to
November 4, 2018
This Fall, people throughout the country are in-
vited to take part in the 40 Days for Life effort. We
are asked to commit to prayer and fasting for an end
to abortion in America and throughout the world. In
addition to 40 days of prayer and fasting, please
consider volunteering to pray outside of Planned
Parenthood, 69 E. Newman Springs Road, Shrews-
bury, NJ.
St. Michael’s Parish will once again participate
in the very important ministry, “40 Days For Life”.
The fall campaign begins September 26 and runs
through November 4, 2018. We are partnering with
other local parishes, conducting peaceful, prayerful
vigils at the Planned Parenthood facility on New-
man Springs Road in Shrewsbury, where abor-
tions are performed.
40 Days for Life vigils are the last line of defense
for babies who are minutes away from being killed
through abortion. In fact, former abortion industry
workers report that when vigil participants are on
site, the no-show rate for abortion appointments can
be as high as 75%.
“As Catholics we have a responsibility to stand
for Life!”
Now more than ever, we need you to come and
join us. Please bring your Rosary, a friend (or two),
and stand up with us Mondays starting October 1st
through October 29th for one hour, between the
hours of 8AM and 6PM at Planned Parenthood at
69 E. Newman Springs Rd. Shrewsbury.
For questions, and/or to sign up, please call Mary
Richards at (732) 222-1562 or email:

BLESSING OF THE PETS
Parishioners and their animal companions gathered
on the church plaza on Saturday, October 6 for the An-
nual Blessing of the Pets. Let us continue to call upon
St. Francis of Assisi for his prayers and intercessions
for our animals and for all of God’s creation.
PATHWAY TO HEAL
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dis-
mayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you
and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
~ Isaiah 41:10
St. Michael's has formed a group for those that need support with life's new paths and journeys.
The PATHWAY TO HEAL Group is a ministry for sep-arated, divorced and widowed persons.
Our group is here to help those who may be new to the emotional stresses of separation and loss in your
world. If you need a place to come and feel safe
please plan on attending our group. Next meeting is on Thursday,
October 25th (Every second and fourth Thursday)
7:00PM St. Michael's Living Room
6 West End Court. WEST END, NJ
Please contact the Parish Office if you need immedi-ate assistance.
Please Join Us. All Are Welcomed.
Work continued this past week in the North Parking Lot on the
installation and painting of the walkway that will connect the gazebo
steps behind the rectory to the prayer garden planned for the north
border of the parking lot. After the brick face etching was cut into
the pavement (see the accompanying photos top left and counter-
clockwise) the walkway was painted with a bright brick red epoxy
coating. A later enhancement will be the embedding into the walk-
way of fourteen circular medallions with Roman numerals calling to
mind the Stations of the Cross. Permanent landscaping will be add-
ed along the northern property line of the parking lot in the Spring
and some temporary landscaping at the eastern edge of the parking
lot later this month. Work by parishioner Mike Lamb and his team
also continued on the scraping, re-caulking, and painting of the en-
closures around the stained glass windows along the south side of the
church (photo at top right).

Annual Catholic Appeal 2018
$109,00
$84,928.50
*This $83,893.50 fig-
ure has been received
from pledges consist-
ing of pledge cards,
checks, and cash sub-
mitted by 316 St.
Michael’s parishioners
as of October 9. This
is 10.7% of our 2,925
registered families and
77% of our parish
goal. Thank you!
During the past week a number of new pledges were received for the Annual
Catholic Appeal (ACA). Thank you! The red ink in the ACA Thermometer to the
right has now moved well above the $84,000 level (77% of our parish goal). And
10.7% of our parish families have now responded to the campaign. Our parish
goal is $109,000. Again, many thanks to all those who have contributed most
recently and also to those who contributed earlier in the year. The need still exists
and is still urgent. If you have not responded to the Annual Appeal and have
the financial ability to make a contribution, please prayerfully consider making
a pledge to this very worthy and important cause. Pledge cards may be found in
the pews; and when completed the pledge cards may be placed in the collection
basket during the Offertory Collection at Mass or mailed to, or dropped off at, the
parish business office. Please consider helping if it’s within your ability to do so.
Thank you!

He produces His love in His people through the Holy Spirit, Whom He pours out upon all flesh.” St. Paulinus We pray that our Heavenly Father will help us to feel as ‘one’ with all Christians throughout the world. Let His Holy Spirit pour forth His grace into the hearts of all Christians and bring them into closer unity with the one Body of Christ.
Our Stephen and Paduan Ministers are available for our parishioners -- to visit the sick; the elderly; and bring Com-munion. Please contact us if you need us – 732-483-0360, Ext. 120.
