Training Ride Protocol
Training Rides
Some Guidelines…………
Suffolk RoSPA Advanced Motorcyclists
__________________________________________
Introduction
Training rides are aimed at associates preparing for their RoSPA test and for full members who wish to brush up on their skills by riding with a tutor or other full members. Routes are published in advance on the group website and are also announced at the monthly meeting. You will be riding with a tutor, associates or full members in groups of up to four people. The tutor or group leader will ensure that you stop at frequent intervals for a debrief to discuss the ride. This is your opportunity to be honest about your riding and that of the others in your group (remember to be friendly) and to learn from your mistakes.
Do not be afraid to speak up and give your point of view.

Some Guidelines
Your machine should be in a roadworthy condition and your
tank full of fuel.
Dipped headlights should be used.
You should ride in staggered formation where it is
appropriate to do so. If you are unsure speak to a tutor/full
member prior to the ride.
Don’t overtake other members of your group unless
signalled to do so.
If another group catches your group, the second group
should find a suitable place to stop for a debrief. This will
allow the first group to continue their ride unhindered.
Don’t speed away from the others in your group. This
applies when exiting speed restricted area, i.e. 30mph, etc.
By adopting this riding style the group can stay together
and not become an extended line of single riders.
Always keep the rider that is behind you visible in your
mirror. If that rider slows down you also should slow down.
This will avoid splitting up the group.
If you want to stop, find a suitable place and then indicate
in good time.
Tell the others in your group beforehand if you intend to
leave the ride before the proposed destination.
You are responsible for your own safety and observing all
the rules of the road throughout the ride.
Safety is paramount. Do not feel under any pressure.
