Owners Tsheten Yolmo and Diana Martinez were happily referred onto Aitkens Auckland representative, Sunil Dass. He says,

“This project has been unique for me, in that we were starting with a blank slate. It gave us many options! But I believe we have created a very functional and inviting space that both staff and diners alike will enjoy.

I really enjoyed piecing together the smaller details, such as tableware, at the Auckland showroom. But a real shining moment was standing with the team onsite when their new equipment arrived.

Assisting with the management of the installation of both equipment and stainless steel onsite avoided a lot of needless trips that can push out timelines. I think the chefs will be really impressed with the cook line we’ve put together.”

We asked Tsheten & Diana a little about their newest venture:

Why did you choose this location for your business? Because it’s Parnell! We fell in love with this site not only for its location, but because of its indoor seating capacity and great outdoor area. The bus stop is out front too which is an added bonus.

Who is your target audience? We look to reach a broad demographic. We’re starting to see a lot of corporates, but cater largely to families too. We really hope to impress the locals and build strong relationships with return customers with warm and friendly service.

How long have you been in the industry? 8 years.

What changes/trends have you noticed within the industry over the past year? Social media has taken over, in particular Instagram. It seems no matter where you eat now, people want their food to look spectacular before they start to dig in.

Why did you choose Aitkens to support you in this venture? Sure, competitive pricing is important, but we were won over by the good customer service and reliability that Sunil showed us. We look forward to continually working with him on future projects.

What is a key item in your kitchen that you couldn’t live without? FIRE! Our new Blue Seal gas range is incredible.

What’s your most popular dish on the menu? The Refined Bowl is taking off, as it’s so healthy and filling.

Representatives of Otago University, Adrian Lowrey & Charlie Mancey sought the assistance of Aitkens when looking to improve the flow of their buffet service. Dunedin local. Livi Stevenson has worked closely with the pair on this project. She says,

“Working with Adrian and Charlie has been great! I have enjoyed exploring ideas to help enhance their function areas and make the most of the spaces they have to offer.

We were able to supply a number of products, including a vast range of buffet risers by Trenton International. Not only did they improve the visual of the buffet, but they have really helped the flow of service. We considered how these items stacked in the kitchen and how they integrated with existing pieces.

We asked Adrian & Charlie a little about their experience with Aitkens Dunedin:

What’s the most recent item you purchased through Aitkens? We purchased the Ryner buffet risers in an assortment of sizes and complimented these with a range of melamine bowls by Cheforward called Infuse. They have a stone look to them.

Why did you purchase this item? What is its purpose? We were looking to improve the visual effect of our buffet and to present our dishes in the best possible way, the risers really gave our presentation an instant appeal and enhanced our client’s experience.

Are you happy with the quality of this product? The products are excellent, visually smart, durable and store easily. We were impressed with the instant positive effect they had.

How do you find the ordering system and service of Aitkens Dunedin? Service from the team at Aitkens has been very efficient and professional. Our rep Livi has gone out of her way to meet our needs, and having our products arrive promptly has allowed us to implement new presentation before the busy season.

What seems to be a difficulty within your business you are trying to overcome? We have the good problem of needing more space to accommodate all the event requests we receive, especially during this 150th year of the University of Otago.

What is your favourite dish on the current menu? There are a number of dishes that really appeal both visually and on the palette. A focus on freshness and healthy eating has us all very excited for the year ahead.
